My passion is helping people who are finding that anxiety and depression are causing problems in their lives. These are two of the most common reasons people come to counseling and thankfully they are two of the problems that have some of the best interventions to help make them better. I thoroughly enjoy working with clients who have anxiety in their lives because I have seen first hand the changes that can be made and the difference a person can experience in their life when anxiety and depression are no longer "hitching a ride" in daily life. Anxiety problems include Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder (with or without Agoraphobia), PTSD, Social Anxiety Disorder, and others. Depression problems include Major Depressive Disorder, Dysthymic Disorder, and others.
I approach these problems, and more including stress, life changes, setting boundaries, lows self-esteem, from a perspective that our thoughts lead to our actions which lead to our feelings that interrupt our days. I also am conscious of outside factors that may be influencing low mood and worry and work with you to find solutions or adjustments to those factors. I also enjoy teaching my clients coping skills that include grounding skills and mindfulness techniques. These interventions can help to prevent relapse into anxiety and depression.
You may also be unsure as to whether what you are experiencing qualifies as anxiety, depression, or another mental health disorder. I can help you sort through the signs and symptoms to determine what might be most helpful in order to make life better for you. I work with clients on a multitude of problems and enjoy helping people discover a better view of life.
I believe that people are capable of making changes in their life and that is why I do what I do. I approach counseling from a cognitive behavioral perspective which means that I help clients examine their thought processes and how those processes drive their behavior and interfere with the results they would like to see in their lives. I also believe that we all have the resources in ourselves to find solutions to our problems. I strive to help clients improve their lives from a strength-based orientation. Mindfulness has become a well-known practice in helping to manage anxiety, depression, stress, and chronic pain. I have seen the benefits of this work in myself and with my clients and will incorporate this approach in my work with you.
