My Approach

You are looking at this profile because you are hurting in someway---perhaps depression, anxiety, maybe you have experienced a loss, or are struggling in a relationship--- and you want it to be different. No matter the motivation, I commend you for your willingness to seek help and your courageousness in taking action.

As your therapist, I will work with you to help create insight into the sources of your suffering. Once we understand the roots of your pain, we can examine how these conscious and unconscious thoughts, feelings and beliefs are impacting your current life situation and seek out ways to introduce positive change.
In order to facilitate healing, I create a warm and safe space where is it safe for you to share yourself, where you will always feel supported, and where you will make conscious what was previously unconscious.

Background and Experience

With over 12 years of experience, I have worked with an extremely wide range of clients and concerns. I have worked with all manner of issues and feelings, and have a strong belief that ordinary suffering, general unhappiness, dissatisfaction in relationships, work and life, and/or a lack of meaning is as worthy a reason to enter therapy as any other kind of suffering. I specialize in grief work of all kinds ( loss of loved one, job loss, relationship loss, infertility, and more), life transitions, relational issues and couples therapy.

I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute and a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Antioch University. I trained extensively at the C.G. Jung Institute of Los Angeles. I studied creative writing at UCLA. I attended Psychoanalytic Center of California’s Certificate Program in Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

My best-selling book, The Next Happy: Let Go of the Life You Planned and Find a New Way Forward was released by Hazelden in 2015.   My next book,“Self-Care Is Not a Stupid Candle: How to Really and Finally Take Care of Yourself in Every Area of Your Life”(Hazelden) will be released in Spring 2017. I write for both Huffington Post and Psychology Today. I have been featured in Redbook, Psychologies, Huffington Post, The New York Daily News, Yahoo News,, The Daily Mail, among others.  I have appeared on Fox News and NPR.
