I am a licensed, clinical social worker, with 23 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families, as well as groups of various kinds. My practice is geared toward helping individuals overcome the barriers that prevent them from achieving their personal goals, and toward helping couples understand and meet each other's needs without compromising their own individuality. I do not have one approach to treatment that I apply in all cases, but rather I tailor my approach to the specific needs and personal styles of each individual or couple. In addition to working face-to-face, I have written a series of workshop materials on subjects such as Conflict Resolution, Anger Management, and Relationship Skills, which are published by Sunburst Communications, Inc. These are used widely in elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools across the country.
Along with a Master’s Degree in Social Work, I also hold a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling. I have often observed that couples wait to seek treatment until their relationship has deteriorated past the point where there is sufficient motivation to improve the situation. I also encourage couples who intend to marry to discuss issues of concern before they set a date and plan their event. In addition to couples issues, the treatment areas in which I specialize include: conflict resolution and anger management, as well as depression, anxiety, and various adjustment disorders. I also hold a graduate degree in music, and have a particular understanding of the unique challenges faced by creative artists. I typically work individually with adults and older teens, as well as with couples and families.
Outside of my work as a psychotherapist, I am married, with a grown son, and have many additional interests: I write music criticism and have produced a number of recordings. I exercise regularly, and enjoy seeing films, cooking, and traveling.
