I graduated from Columbia University School of Social Work in 2002 with a concentration in mental health issues. My background includes more than 10 years experience with working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.   My approach is very interactive & personal, always conscious of the specific needs of the people I am working with.

My work with individuals focus on helping better understand patterns and heal wounds from the past while also developing strengths and strategies for dealing with the future.   I have taken much advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy, which while specializing in couples, has a great deal of application in work with individuals & families.   I have also trained in EMDR, which has shown to be very helpful in working with trauma as well as integrating mind-body techniques in my work.

With individuals, some specific issues I work with include :

  •   Depression & Anxiety
  •   Healing past trauma & sexual abuse
  •   Building Self-Esteem
  •   Relationship Problems
  •   Life Stage Transitions including job loss, aging & divorce
  •   Parenting issues (including parenting adult children)
  •   Grief & Bereavement
  •   Work & Personal Stress
  • Sexual Orientation, LGBT issues/familes

Some questions for couples :

  • Are you having trouble communicating  ?
  • Do you find yourself fighting too often & have it spiraling out of control ?
  • Or do you feel yourself shutting down  - drifting apart ?
  • Are you dealing with issues related to infidelity or loss ?
  • Do you miss the relationship you once had - feeling lonely and sad ?

These are just a few of the problems couples face in our busy, hectic world.

I find Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to be very successful with couples at all stages of their relationships - from early on in clarifying patterns and learning new tools to healing old wounds.  In it,  couples deal with the underlying patterns of communication which so often block us from feeling heard or understood.  We work together to identify and have power over these patterns and also tools with which to develop a stronger, more open and intimate bond.

Empirical studies have shown EFT to be very effective in restoring effective communication, fostering closeness and creating new bonds.  The focus is  on creating safe attachment which is a cornerstone of a strong relationships.

Becoming a therapist was a career change for me  after working in information systems. I have made significant life & career changes and bring that perspective to my work.

I think this is a really exciting time in the field of mental health as increased knowledge about the brain expands the limits of understanding daily.  I look forward to sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with you on this journey.

I encourage clients to call for a free phone consultation to discuss your goals for therapy and get an idea of my style and how we might work together.
