When you think about addiction you may look to the normal list of alcohol, drugs and gambling. I work with those who find a high from shopping. If you have items in your closet with the tags still attached, hide the items you purchase from loved ones, spend more time and money than you have on items that you do not need and have packages delievered numerous times of the week then you may have a shopping addiction. The other spectrum is that you may not spend all your time shopping but when you do shop, you spend more money than you intended. I have helped numerous client's learn how to be "normal" shoppers. I can help you too.

I view addictions as a symptom of some deeper issue that my clients are attempting to manage in an inappropriate manner. I investigate to discover what is causing the need to use substances or engage in other behaviors. Although I believe people should use all of the resources available to them to help them overcome their addiction, I believe in empowering people to gain control over their lives and make the necessary changes that will put in place barriers to relapse.

Therapy can be a great tool to support men and women in overcoming chemical (substances) and process (behavioral) addictions and regaining control of a healthy lifestyle. I have supported clients in working through addictions including alcoholism, drug abuse, compulsive pornography use, and compulsive cell phone and gaming use. I will discuss a plan to help you identify the emotional components of your addictive cycle, increase social support and accountability, develop new habits that support refraining from using, and having a clear long term plan for freedom. Call or email me today and we will discuss your needs and the support I can provide.
