Jennifer Staat, Ph.D

Licensed Psychologist

4014 Oleander Office Park. Bldg D, Suite 103, Wilmington, North Carolina 28403

Behind every addict is a worried parent, partner, or friend. This person often feels at fault for the addict's behavior and tries to fix things. The hope is: "If I can get things right, maybe he/she will change." A roller coaster ride ensues because the addict is never pleased for very long. Dr. Staat can bring healing to the situation by helping the stressed partner. The goal is to learn to focus more on self needs while revolving less around the addict's needs. Guilt and shame can heal as addiction is discussed as a "disease" for which no one is to blame. As a result of this work, life after therapy can be more stable and enjoyable.

Eve Cribbs, LCSW

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

1407 Hillsborough St, Raleigh, UNITED STATES 27605

I've had extensive training and experience with addiction treatment. I now specialize in eating disorders and find that many of my clients have been recovering for some time from alcohol/drugs before being ready to address and resolve their addiction to food. I have come to know that food is a drug most available early in our lives and thus, if used to manage mood and escape the pain of our childhood, takes on the same nature as the chemical addiction. The recovery, because of needed regular contact, calls for a different approach. I don't use the abstinence model because of the resistance and weight -loss focus. I use the non-diet and intuitive eating/movement approach in my program.
