I recognize that the most important aspect to an effective therapeutic treatment is the quality of the relationship between the client and therapist. Through this collaborative approach, the client and I identify their strengths and build on these characteristics through therapy. We identify areas in the individuals’ life which are not useful or producing an undesirable outcome-such as self-destructive behavior, poor communication skills, etc.

Many approaches to addiction emphasize willpower and deprivation, but this only works temporarily. Alcohol, substances, or other addictive behaviours like gambling and gaming offer short-term relief of underlying issues at a long-term cost to one's relationships and health. As an addiction counsellor, I can help you resolve underlying issues, regain control, and build a sense of meaning and purpose, so you can start living the life you want. We use a client centered approach, supplementing individual therapy with family treatment and group therapy as appropriate. We address substance abuse and other addictions, and have therapists who have completed certificates in sexual health. We are in the process of becoming certified for gambling addiction treatment through the State of Michigan. For opiate and other substance addictions, we work closely with a medical doctor who treats addictions. We have offered alternatives to traditional Intensive Outpatient Programs, creating individualized intensive treatment programs utilizing individual, family and group treatment.
