Individual therapy is another pillar of recovery along with participation in 12 step groups. Addictions are the ways that we prescribe our own self-medication. They are the ways we have devised to cope with painful things--our fears, our insecurities, our past hurts, our present conflicts, and all of the things we would otherwise avoid if we could. Addictions counseling can help us learn to face and cope with that which we are trying to escape, and put in place new, positive forms of self-medication--things that strengthen and empower us to function and thrive in life, rather than cripple and destroy us and those around us.

I work with family members of those who have grown up in a home with an addict, as well as those who are currently living in such a home. It is easy to focus on the "user", while overlooking all the problems living in this situation can cause the wife/husband and children. Many times, when the family reaches out for help for themselves, the one using also comes to the point of seeking help. If you are feeling anxious, sad, lonely, frustrated, or at the point of not knowing where to turn, I can help you. I also offer a group ($20.00 per session) for those who are having problems going it alone. If in doubt about seeking help, ask yourself whether your current method is working.
