Addiction and substance use is a common challenge that many people face off and on throughout their lives. It often starts as a teenager, and if not supported in the right way, can carry on into adulthood as an unhealthy form of coping. Having experience working with teens in a live in treatment center, helps me to understand addiction in a different way by seeing how it impacts all facets of life. My non judgmental and welcoming space allows a safe space for youth and adults to explore what is driving substance use and develop healthier coping.

Often in life, stress, responsibility and unhappiness can lead to managing/medicating with a variety of substances; marijuana, alcohol, gambling, sex, internet, drugs, ect. This can lead to an unbalance in the usage of these substances, create a significant strain and negative affect on relationships, family, work and one self. We will work to uncover the motivating force that has driven to substance abuse and help to regain control. Through this work we will strive to regain a healthy and balanced life, free of addiction or dependency.

As a Trauma Counsellor, I am available to provide counselling support that will help you explore and discover the areas in your life that led to your addiction. I can also support you as you take the steps to protect and rebuild those relationships that were damaged as a result of your addiction. I use cognitive behaviour therapy as well as expressive art therapy in a very individualized plan toward reaching your goal of a healthier, more fulfilling life.

I have extensive experience helping others overcome an addiction, understand and cope with anxiety and depression I believe the client/ counsellor rapport is important when seeking help. It will establish a healthy relationship in which a person will get the best care. I will provide my clients with the necessary skills, knowledge, and opportunities to become responsible citizens.

I provide support for those considering or determined to reduce or eliminate substances, problem gambling, or other compulsion. Whether the goal is cutting out the addictive behaviour or minimizing its impact, I work through motivational interviewing to help people access addiction treatment if needed. If treatment is not needed, I target the underlying problem such as anxiety, depression, or family conflict. So if you have a family member who requires assessment and direction, or you yourself need to know that you addiction is in good hands while you focus on another problem, I can help.

Ferne uses what model fits the client with their addiction. There is the harm reduction approach and disease model. She will help develop a treatment plan that address relapse, relapse prevention, support, triggers to your addiction. She will help you replace the addictive coping skills with healthy coping skills. She can also help you find out if you have an addiction. Family of origin issues are also addressed.

Many approaches to addiction emphasize willpower and deprivation, but this only works temporarily. Alcohol, substances, or other addictive behaviours like gambling and gaming offer short-term relief of underlying issues at a long-term cost to one's relationships and health.
