Addictions come in all forms. You can't stop the behavior so matter how hard you try. You hide the addiction for fear of experiencing shame or misunderstanding from others. We do addictive behaviors because they do something for us. I don't rob a bank because it doesn't do anything for me. I'd get caught, go to jails, etc. But I'll overeat because I get something out of it. The problem is that what we get out of our addictive behaviors do not satisfy the goal of what we ultimately want—freedom. Understand the reasons for what started and what maintains your addiction, and find tangible help. Note: I am not adequately trained in addictions related to drugs and alcohol.
