Anger is not necessarily bad. It is the instinctual response of being interrupted in the pursuit of a goal. We all need that upsurge of energy to push back when we feel we are pushed or deprived or hurt. But because anger is a very powerful emotional expression it can be hurtful to others or scary or dangerous. Therefore we need to be able to manage our anger in a productive and problem solving way rather than making things worse or even abusive to others. My approach in working with you is to explore your individual situation and offer tools to help you understand your anger and learn to manage it effectively.

Anger can be a form of emotional poison. I help clients understand the sources of their anger and find more appropriate ways to channel their feelings. Anger can be transformed into a new range of insights and feelings. I also teach stress management techniques so that the client lives from a place of calm rather than chronic anger. With practice, clients will create new neural pathways of peacefulness.

There are anger management classes to be found here in Southern NH, and I can refer you to psychologists and counselors in Manchester as well as Nashua. I do not provide classes in my practice. I provide individual counseling tailored to your needs and circumstances. One-on-one, we work to understand the complex patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that constitute anger. Typically this means exploring in considerable detail the situations where you experience anger, your perceptions, the automatic thought processes and recurring themes, and the habitual behavioral reactions that result ... and the feedback loops, so to speak, that can maintain these difficulties over many years.
