Anger is an emotion. And anger is usually the result of emotions building up inside. One of the traits that I bring to therapy related to anger management is being able to process how anger comes into any situation my clients are dealing with. In taking the time to identify how anger manages to invade my client's life we can work towards ways of preventing it from stopping the ability to live a fulfilling - and complete - life.

Anger basically is a natural emotion. The pesence of anger indicates a problem exists. It is the esclation of anger that often causes additional problems. The challenge is not avoiding anger but using it to help resolve an issue. Being solution focused requires clear thinking and ownership of the issue. Then growth is possible as a result. We build on life expereinces and identifying the individual's role is essential to that process.

Anger is a complex, yet healthy emotion as long as people express it in safe and appropriate ways. Anger is often a signal that something in our lives needs to change. In my work, I help people learn to build on their strengths and resources, identify the early warning signs, and respond differently to triggers. This enables clients to respond more effectively instead of automatically reacting and letting anger get the best of them. Essentially, I help clients change their relationship with anger by channeling it in productive ways and using effective coping methods. I work with individuals, couples, and families struggling with anger from a solution-oriented and strengths-based approach.

There are many times anger gets the best of us, as it is a normal and healthy emotion to express, especially when someone has hurt you or someone you love. Anger usually derives out of feeling wronged and sometimes it can spiral out of control, often emotionally and or physically hurting those you love most. If your goal is to get a better handle on anger, we will collaboratively work to make sense of how anger tends to get the best of you and then we will work to find custom tailored solutions that fit for you. There are ways to justify how anger makes sense within a given situation and certainly anger is not wrong to feel, although there is hope to be able to channel it more efficiently.

Every one of us will struggle with the emotion of anger. The key in living effectively with ourselves and others is in how we choose to manage and cope with these feelings. Understanding our triggers, the ways we currently try to cope with strong emotions, and the effect this has on both our self-esteem and relationships will be a part of our therapy. I believe that anger is a strong force and can become an intrenched habit where we fall into reacting rather than responding from a place of integrity and grace. It is possible, and probable, that following therapy you will have gained numerous tools you are able to integrate into your life immediately.

The "management" of anger oftentimes seems to lead clients into just more anger! It's kind of like tightening the lid on the pressure cooker as a way to keep steam from getting out. Instead, I work with you to understand that context, content, emotional, and behavioral responses top key situations and we collaborate to explore alternate--more personally beneficial--paths for you to consider.
