Many people struggle with controlling anger, both men and women. I have found anger is closely related to not feeling in control of life's stresses. I initially assess a person's level of anger, and any possible mood related issues which cause or exacerbate the issue. I assign homework, and also help educate the client on the anger cycle. I teach the client how to manage their anger better, so that it improves relationships, including at the workplace, with the family and in their marriage.

My approach to counseling individuals with anger issues is two-fold. Initially the unhealthy behaviors that are exhibited are identified and alternate, healthier behaviors are established. The second part of anger management consists of identifying the underlying, faulty beliefs about life that the client holds which lead him/her to become angry in the first place ("people should do what I want"). Together we sift through these faulty beliefs and replace them with more accurate beliefs, which significantly reduce the frequency of anger outburst, and when these do occur, new behaviors are in place to express the anger constructively.
