Anger Therapy and Anger Management Near Spring, TX
Emilio Jimenez, MA, LPC
While anger is a reponse to a percieved threat, or "unfairness," unmanaged anger can lead to other problems. It gets in the way of flexibility, having a strategy, and thinking clearly. Anger causes people to act reactively, which causes the problem to become worse as opposed to better. So, the angry guy throws something because he's unhappy that his home is a mess. He throws things around because he's mad that he can't find something. He insults his girlfriend creating yet another problem. So, with anger disappeared, he becomes more creative and clear and no longer inclined to move in a productive way.

Anger doesn’t have to equal rage. We can learn how to express angry feelings in ways which don’t cause fear in the people around us. Sometimes our feelings for a person are more possessive than loving. We can use humor in the form of sarcasm, masking our anger instead of sharing our feelings in a healthy way. It might feel like we go from 0-100 on the anger scale quickly, but it is a process similar to dominoes falling one after the other. If we can learn to recognize the process that occurs and slow it down in our mind, we can make better choices and express our feelings without the trauma, emotional and even physical damage that rage and anger inflicts on ourselves and those around us.
Rachel Eddins, M.Ed., LPC-S, CGP
Anger is our response to stress. Sometimes we feel anger to avoid some other emotion such as anxiety or hurt and other times anger is a way of mobilizing ourselves in the face of a threat. Regardless of the reasons for your anger, you may find that it is unproductive in your relationships with others. Our therapists can help you develop new responses to stress and help you stop the spiral of anger. Our approach to working with anger is both physiological and psychological. We will help you recognize and manage the physical signs and symptoms that occur when you're angry as well as finding new ways to express yourself and get your needs met in a way that others can understand.
Jean Dixon, MS, LPC
Avoiding, running from, hiding, burying and resisting are common methods for dealing with anger. While these may work to keep it from our awareness, they often result in furthering our suffering. I help people recognize anger before it becomes explosive or even abusive. Learning simple awareness skills can help you release it quickly so that you can maintain a calm state and help you make better decisions and express yourself more effectively. It's important to learn how anger works so that you can work with it and not be worked by it.

I help clients learn to deal with anger in a healthy way. Anger is a red flag of unresolved conflict, and is never the main feeling. Hot buttons are softer feelings under the anger, and is where anger management starts. Unhealthy anger involves a list of defenses, including aggression and passive aggression. I help clients learn to assert their needs without control or violating the boundaries of others.

Anger, what a bear! We all struggle with anger. We tend to under-express or over-express. Whether it be in the context of work, friendship, or romantic and marital relationships anger is a challenge that with exploration can become an opportunity for closeness. I work with individuals and couples to help them understand the difficult feelings that usually stimulate anger. For example, a fear of not being seen, loved, appreciated, acknowledged, or respected. I also work with clients to help them learn how to be assertive in a healthy way, leading to increased energy, satiisfaction, and sense of real intimacy with others.

There is a beginning, middle and end to anger. Most of us are familiar with the aftermath of anger. In order to control anger, one must understand anger. What triggers anger; what anger feels like; what are the consequences; and what is the predominant way that anger is expressed. These are the behavioral aspect of anger. There are other aspects to anger. What are the beliefs surrounding anger? And finally, understanding the biological factor of anger will round out the picture of anger. Anger management is not just "stop being angry." You have already tried that. Now try something else and regain your life back.
Michelle Puster, M.Ed., LPC-Intern, CART
Anger can cause many challenges in our day to day lives. It can cause health problems, waste energy, and wreck our relationships. If you are experiencing any of these challenges in your life it is important for you to know there is hope for you. You will improve relationships, strengthen interpersonal skills, and reduce feelings of anger. Through empathy and understanding Michelle will lead you to find your own ability to calm yourself and begin to handle frustrating situations in a new way.
David S. Wachtel, Ph. D.
I have found that anger problems can be due to different factors, with those unique to you having to be identified clearly. Your anger may be due to trauma or abuse, safer to get mad that feel the underlying sadness and powerlessness, self-protection for more hurt or rejection, or something more that has to be kept out of awarenss. While managing your anger can be a relatively short-term problem or a battle you have had for many years, it is correctable! We work together to address both the underlying sources of your anger along with developing more-effective stategies and actions that can often result in you noticing some improvement in a short time.
Victor Wiesner, PhD, LPC, NCC, CCMHC
I have conducted anger management groups nearly every week for a 6 year period from 1997 to 2003. Since then I have obtained my doctorate and have gone on to conduct dozens of individual sessions. I have written many letters to the courts on behalf of clients.
The first phase in my treatment approach involves identifying as many physical signs and symptoms that you are becoming distressed. With practice one can often recognize anger sooner and this is helpful because the sooner anger is recognized, the easier it is to manage. Typically thoughts and actions both drive feelings. The next step then is to learn methods to self-soothe using actions and positive self-talk. Many more techniques.
