Anger is a normal human emotion. The manner in which individuals exhibit their emotions, particularly anger can be constructive or destructive. If individuals are able to constructively channel their anger, the experience and management of anger leads to neutral or positive outcomes. However, if an individual manifests their anger in a unhealthy manner, it can negatively affect any facet of their lives from their personal relationships to their professional lives. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is key to learning to effectively manage anger. With this approach, clients learn to identify and substitute unhealthy trigger thoughts with healthy thoughts and to utilize anger-reducing strategies.

Treatment for Anger Management usually comes when others find the client’s anger offensive and the client is asked to change. Often people become angry when they feel betrayed, disrespected, rejected, abandoned, or afraid. Therapy allows clients to delve into the nature of their anger and gain a greater understanding of what it is that is triggering their responses to a situation. Feeling angry much of the time is an indicator that the person doesn’t feel that she is getting her needs met. Exploring the reality of this feeling is an important step towards moving to getting more of her needs met in the present and also processing old (childhood) unmet needs. I assist clients in this area.

Our goal is not to be "anger – free" but rather to teach the client how to control his or her response to the president anger – including the biological arousal's and emotional feelings that anger may cause. We offer encouragement for the client that is willing to address the problem and we stress the importance of beginning immediately to do so given the possible destructive ways that anger can be expressed. We will share and practice some powerful and biblical methods to protect the client from asserting potential destructive behavior. Proverbs 16:32
Being Angry is not sinful when expressed and dealt with in constructive ways.

Has your anger got out of control? Have you damaged meaningful relationships because of the way you express your anger? Anger is an emotion that we all experience at one moment or another. Often people express angry feelings when they are frustrated, misunderstood, hurt or afraid. Anger is not really the problem. The way we express anger and to whom we express it is often the issue. It is critical to learn to recognize the signs that precedes your anger and to manage them and to learn to communicate your anger in a non-violent and even in a constructive way. It may be time to take responsibility for the way you deal with angry feelings and take a courageous step toward changing.

Anger isn't about anger. There's a funny saying: "Anger is fear in a party dress." I think that anger is a secondary emotion, covering up (making presentable, or making useful) more primary emotions like sadness or fear. But sometimes it's not easy to get at the sadness or fear--we're so locked in anger that we're just stuck, and can't get out. This is where therapy can help--therapy can help us access the root feelings so we can make some progress on whatever the problem is. If the problem is anger, I can help get underneath it--to the root causes--and clean it out, so that you can be less angry. Sometimes we need someone to talk to in order to get a better handle on our anger.

Understanding anger and its components can transform your relationship to others and yourself. Through increased clarity about the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that create and maintain anger states you can learn to create the space and conditions needed to release anger and create a more peaceful and compassionate approach towards yourself and others. Anger can be a powerful motivator when clearly understood. Seeing the innocence in another's behavior can prevent the old habits of blame and resentment that have a poisonous effect on relationships and on ourselves. Developing patience and compassion can contribute to the growth of happiness in ourselves and in others.
