Sometimes life can be so difficult, so frustrating, and such a constant challenge, that the anger builds up inside, and we can have difficultly expressing it properly. Sometimes it comes out in yelling, in harsh words, or even in violence. It's okay to feel anger, and it's healthy to express it, but letting it come out in negative and/or uncontrolled ways always make things worse. I am able to provide anger management assistance to the communities of Long Beach CA and Orange County CA. When you learn positive, healthy ways of expressing your anger, you'll feel much better, and so will those around you.

Anger can be a powerful emotion. Many times, it stems from unresolved pain. You see, if we choose not to feel sad or pain in our lives and think it will just go away, this does not work long-term. What tends to happen is that the feelings will leak out, usually as anger. I can show you the tools to not only manage your anger but also realize where it may truly be coming from. Please do not let your anger get the best of you.

Anger is only the "tip of the iceburg." Talking with a professional therapist will help give you insight into what is really at the core of your anger. Many do not realize that anger is actually a "mask" for many other emotions. Anger can also be "stored up" through a person's lifetime. Once you admit you are angry, then the journey begins to find out what, why, who and how. Becoming aware of the life events either in your past, or currently that you might be struggling with is the beginning of emotional freedom. We are not meant to spend our lives angry. Discovering more about yourself, your emotions, and anger will be the beginning of a journey of freedom from emotional bondage.

Activating the fight-flight system is the single most challenging factor in managing anger, stress, & interpersonal conflict. When anger stems from childhood trauma, EMDR may be useful. When it originates from an over-active limbic system (e.g, in ADD), neurofeedback and/or medication may be indicated. Regardless of the source, some crucial elements are: learning an effective relaxation/self-soothing method, knowing how to check one's pulse so that time-out can be taken to use the self-soothing tools to calm down when elevating (rather than after full escalation), and employing a cardio exercise program. A good Mindfulness practice can be beneficial as well for those who are so inclined.

Most people who have difficulties controling their anger attempt to suppress the anger by various means, which often leads to future eruptions. A more effect approach is to explore the causes of the anger by discussing your feelings with an objective psychologist. Ironically, anger control is gained not through "control of anger" but through feeling and understanding the anger.

You might have heard that "anger" is a secondary emotion, meaning that underneath anger, there is often sadness, hurt, and pain. I work with children and adults in finding both practical tools to control their anger as well as exploring underlying triggers, and related relational dynamics that make anger difficult to control. I also identify the type of relaxation techniques that are the most helpful in times of anger escalation.

Anger is part of all human emotion. It is unmanaged anger that becomes troubling and destructive. Learning how to manage anger is an educational process and requires a willingness to change unproductive habits that get created early in life. I have found that most individuals who suffer with anger management issues either turn their anger inward or outward. Both situations are harmful and unproductive. Learning how to manage anger in a healthy way is where I begin with my clients.

Anger is a healthy expression of emotion. When anger and rage become the dominating emotion that rules our actions, a potentially serious problem exists. When this occurs we feel out of control, even frightened by the intensity of feeling. Scared by life altering actions and repercussions. We become lost and confused. We know this is not me but yet it is. This mystery is solvable. Sometimes when negative experiences happen we hide and bury them, We do this so well we forget why the anger is there. Over the years these experiences multiply, fester and grow. A time bomb waiting to be triggered. We can help you unearth the issues, defuse and help you to dismantle the bomb. Call! We can help.

Anger doesn't have to control you, but you have to be willing to let it go. I use a multidimentional approach for anger management counseling that includes the use of an anger management workbook, Structured Cognitive Behavioral Journaling, relaxation skills training, EMDR, and the processing of family of origin issues. It is important to learn to identify our feelings, develop the skills to manage our feelings, identify the triggers to anger and to identify and address anything that may be underlying that intensifies our emotions making them more difficult to control.

With a partner, I have developed a new and effective model of anger management that teaches you eight proven tools for anger control. These skill-based tools include; (1) reducing stress in your life, (2) developing empathy, (3)learning to respond instead of react, (4) changing self-talk, (5) communicating assertively, (6) adjusting expectations, (7) learning to forgive, and (8) retreating and thinking things over. These tools are taught to clients both in individual consultation and in anger management classes. They are also taught in online anger management programs I have produced.

There are fewer and fewer classes and resources out there for anger management. I offer a more in-depth approach to anger management. I teach clients the skills to manage and control their anger, but I also help clients identify the sources and causes of their anger. Most people need to learn how to appropriately express their anger. People can change if they are willing to change their current way of thinking and if they are willing to practice the skills learned in therapy.

Anger is actually quite useful and can give us a lot of information about how we are feeling. Anger is not really a feeling but a reaction to other feelings. It provides energy when we are not being treated well. It tells us when we are in pain or have been hurt. When we fearful we can become angry. When anger is not allowed to be expressed or goes on too long it is not healthy. Once you learn what anger is telling you and get in touch with the underlying feelings you can learn to manage anger appropriately.

Anger is the most misunderstood emotion. It is vitally important for us to be in touch with our anger but not to be ruled by it. Managing your anger for many is difficult at best. To be healthy, one needs to have a wide repertoire of coping skills. I taught a personal growth group for many years that focused on learning to deal with conflict. Feedback showed that these lessons were invaluable. My style of therapy will teach you how to cope and how to communicate your anger effectively and respectfully. You and your loved ones will no longer be taken hostage by your emotions. Your relationships will improve and you will feel strong and secure in yourself.

Anger is not wrong. How we hurt others or ourselves in anger is damaging. I work with clients to release their anger and frustration in healthy ways prior to interacting with anyone. We then work on how to release tension and understand their feelings so that when they discuss challenges they do not re-ignite and exacerbate the sitaution. We explore the cycle of anger and violence and create saftey measures so this cycle is altered. Self-responsibility is critical. We work on body relaxation, visualization, and breath work to help the client understand their body and utilize it more effectively.

If you have become aware that your anger has been hurtful to others or to yourself, it is so important to learn how to channel all that raw emotion into something constructive instead of destructive. Anger management involves learning to recognize the emotional triggers that cue an anger response, change the behaviors through changing the thought patterns underneath and address the underlying emotions that fuel the anger.

Anger is an uncomplicated emotion called a primary process emotion. There's no real thinking about it to bring it on. Resentment is a secondary process emotion, and it's something we "stew over." Understanding the various types of anger is important in knowing how to control and express it appropriately. Also, understanding the flip-side anger, and the Adrenalin Response; fear, is an extremely important consideration in understanding one's anger. Through psychotherapy, neurofeedback and biofeedback training, I can help you understand the sources of your anger, and develop control over it.

Frustration and anger are normal parts of the human experience, but when they become chronic, uncontrollable, and hurtful, they can do untold damage to relationships, families, and ourselves physically. I work with patients to understand the roots of anger, and to develop strategies for anger management by facilitating recognition of hurt, helplessness, and lack of control that underlie rage and excessive anger. Healing comes both from clear introspection and also the use of effective tools to better express hurt, anger, and need.
