Has anyone ever shown concern for your anxiety, stress or anger? These are common reactions to the pressures of our lives today. Ongoing stress can ravage our closest relationships and even our health.
My approach to helping you with stress involves hearing about your unique situation and teaching and coaching coping strategies to help you to manage your thoughts, feelings and actions in our often overwhelming world. Families and couples often want to learn these skills together. Let's begin to co-create your new life where you experience the world with more ease and higher tolerance for frustration.
This is the kind of support we all need from time to time.
Chantal Blackshaw, M.A., M.DIV., CCC
By employing a strengths based approach, I assist clients to find strategies to reduce their anxiety, using their inner resources to determine what has worked in the past, what didn't, and discuss new strategies to try. I also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help my clients to identify negative thinking patterns and behaviors. This method then allows for a change toward more positive thoughts and behaviours so as to reduce anxiety or stress. By identifying your strengths and learning new ways of handling stress, you can gain the confidence to tackle any problem that arises and lead a more stress-free life.

Anxiety can be paralyzing. It can keep you awake at night and miserable throughout the day. It can eat you up from the inside out. Fortunately there are tools to lessen anxiety. Learning how to keep your mind from spinning, ruminating and excessive worrying are valuable life skills. Learning techniques to calm your breathing, manage stress and control your thoughts will be immensely freeing. Cognitive therapy is well researched and has well documented success. Help is possible. Just call.
Sarah Schlote, BA, MA, CCC
Anxiety and stress are my main area of expertise, aside from working with trauma survivors. My holistic and integrative approach to therapy will help you address not only the cognitive aspects of anxiety and stress (such as the core beliefs, negative thoughts, expectations and demands that impact our well being), but also their emotional and physical components. Helping you to become mindfully aware, in the present, of your level of activation, agitation and energy, the subtle body cues that are indicating your nervous system is revving up, and how to gently ground yourself are an important part of finding balance and coping with difficult situations, as are self-care and self-compassion.
Mark Nixon, MA, CCC

There are times in our lives where we all are stressed and experience anxiety. Some experience anxiety at higher levels and handle stress differently. Stress is in our everyday lives, in work, family, friends, and even at play. We all function under stress differently and need a support system in place at times. Reaching out to a counselor can be difficult but such a rewarding experience. A counselor can help support and guide you through the rough times and even help to find resources for change. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is the most recognized form of therapy to help reduce anxiety and helps the client to feel in control of their healing journey.

Anxiety and stress usually occurs because we forget to breathe. If we breathe consciously for 3-5 minutes we can reduce and usually rid ourselves of the stress and anxiety.
If there is a continuous pattern I usually look for the origination of the stress and anxiety in our family of origin. If we can connect the past with the present we can be more conscious of why we are being triggered. As children we beleive we are trapped in our present situation and can't survive in the world alone, so we have to live with the stressors. As we become adults subconsciously we still beleive we are trapped in our present anxiety. This isnt true. I help clients become more aware of thier choices.

It is normal to worry and feel stressed about life's problems and pressures. But when compounded symptoms begin to overwhelm us to the point where we are getting headaches, heart palpitations, a churning stomach, cold sweats, sleepless nights, weight loss, obsessive thoughts, a distressed GI tract - then we need help to break the adrenaline-fear cycle. Anxiety feeds on fear and needs to be confronted, appropriately and safely, with relaxation techniques, new perceptions and constructive thinking patterns. A counsellor can help you do this.
