Panic and anxiety conditions call us to listen to what the body is trying to communicate about imbalances affecting its chemistry.
If a child is tired or hungry, the child will often make a noise to call someone to attend to his or her needs. The body itself makes " noise" to call us to stop and listen. Anxiety and panic may pose the following questions:
1. Am I under too much stress ?
2. Do I have interrupted sleep patterns ?
3. Is there unfinished business in my life from which I am running?
4. Am I a caretaker and constantly directing my energy to others and forgetting myself ?
Meditation, nutrition, exercise & making peace with the past are some strategies to address the "noise".
William Stokeld, MA
Back in our distant past, anxiety and stress came from physical concerns such as lack of food, or shelter, to help us survive the winter, or danger of being killed by an animal (or neighbour!). While we now have few physical dangers to cause us anxiety or stress, we have many psychological ones – work, traffic, neighbours, money and lack of time to name a few. It is not these “events” themselves that create the anxiety and stress, but how we perceive them. Through exploring the irrationality of our thoughts, life’s events can be put into a more balanced perspective, with the resulting positive impact on our health and sense of wellbeing.

Anxiety feels awful! I know because I’ve been there too. It can make even the most basic tasks feel daunting and overwhelming. It can happen in response to a specific memory, thought, situation, or challenge. It can also come out of nowhere and hijack your mind and body when you least expect it.
Anxiety disorders are a modern epidemic but your experience of anxiety is as unique as you are.
To tame your anxiety, we will work together to understand your unique stress and anxiety dynamics and using these insights we will build skills and strategies to help you recognize what is happening to stop it from escalating.
Charity Fleming, MSW, RSW

Jonathan Christink, B.A., M.Ed.
In working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, I use both a cognitive behavioural therapeutic (CBT) approach and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. The principal aim of cognitive behavioural therapy is to increase awareness that thoughts and behaviour drive emotion. My aim is to increase consciousness of distorted perceptions, and then assist individuals in rebalancing those perceptions to be more accurate. EMDR focuses specifically on reprocessing traumatic memories that are at the root of the anxiety. Through EMDR individuals can come to terms with traumatic and distressing memories that underlie anxiety.
Kim Christink, M. Div., D. Min.
I believe that you and I are required to become an expert at dealing with work stress, relational stress, and personal internal stress. We need to be able to have sharp cognitive and emotional skills that other generations just did not require. When people come to me for help we work extensively at developing awareness, stress management and emotional and relational intelligence (IQ). I use a holistic model that incorporates the most clinically proven strategies that produce positive outcomes.
If you are motivated you can overcome anxiety, panic and phobia. We have successfully run individual treatment programs for the last twelve years helping people just like you.
Chantal Blackshaw, M.A., M.DIV., CCC
By employing a strengths based approach, I assist clients to find strategies to reduce their anxiety, using their inner resources to determine what has worked in the past, what didn't, and discuss new strategies to try. I also use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help my clients to identify negative thinking patterns and behaviors. This method then allows for a change toward more positive thoughts and behaviours so as to reduce anxiety or stress. By identifying your strengths and learning new ways of handling stress, you can gain the confidence to tackle any problem that arises and lead a more stress-free life.
