I create a safe, warm, caring atmosphere so that you can share your stressful feelings of anxiety, fear and worry as well as hurt, anger, depression, bitterness, sadness, helplessness, discouragement and hopelessness. You may also be experiencing guilt, shame or grief and serious relationship (marital, family, parent-child, partner, career/job) problems. I can help you shift from this state of emotional and mental distress/darkness to the experience of emotional and mental light. I can also help you heal from the physical and physiological symptoms that often accompany anxiety, stress, fear and worry. (rapid heart beat, rashes, high blood pressure, back and headaches, stomach distress etc

Got Stress? Get Creative!
My favorite daily practice is to smile when I feel one of those feelings (stressed, upset,
overwhelmed, anxious…) I immediately feel better and am able to respond effectively to what is
in front of me (like car going too slow when I’m in a hurry or someone being rude/
unthoughtful/difficult).
I learned this during my training over the years in performance and improv… learning to
creatively respond to what’s coming at me/being offered by the world with acceptance and
openness. And, as a therapist I have seen how creatively responding verses automatically
reacting out of anger, fear, stress, frustration, etc can help clients as well as me.

Anxiety, excessive worry, panic attacks, and stress take a toll on your health, relationships, work and well being. While I use a number of tools to overcome Anxiety, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as an evidence based approach to successfully reduce symptoms and manage stress so you can achieve the life you deserve. CBT often includes short homework assignments to complete between sessions.

Anxiety can rob you of the ability to be at peace and experience joy. It interferes with relationships and your ability to focus. I will help you interrupt those racing thoughts or worries and to deal with them in a calm and structured way so that you are no longer at their mercy. We can also work to uncover the roots of stress or anxiety so that you have insight into what started those feelings and what may be triggering them. When you can understand yourself, you can begin to take care of yourself and control those feelings in new ways. Call me to discuss what kind of anxiety you struggle with and we will talk about what kind of help you would like.

Living in our culture today is as stressful as ever. In the Information Age, we're inundated with data: what's the best way to live, best way to parent, to eat, to work, to date, to behave? So often conflicting directives and demands in our lives produce enormous stress. It feels like we continually need more money in order to afford all the stuff we "need." I help people find peace in their lives, to know when enough is enough, and to have an experiential clarity about what we're able to change and what we need to accept.

Anxiety and stress are part of every day functioning. Much of the time , they help us by helping us change as life changes. Sometimes the stress is so strong that it undermines us and make us less anxious. Often it impedes our close relationships, the ones that are most able to help us cope and be secure. My approach is to work with people in their important relationships, families, couples, children and parents and/or friends. Through working together, we can support each other and act as resources. We learn how to communicate better and focus on the present instead of getting more stressed and anxious always thinking of our problems but not changing them. We benefit from learning how.

I will work with you on what is causing you stress and/or anxiety. Initially we will work out some appropriate short term coping techniques that will help you feel less helpless. Once these are working sufficiently we will look at your thinking patterns and accompanying feelingsand explore alternative ways of approaching situations and the subsequent chain of thoughts and feelings that ensue. With practise and time, change will occur and you will feel more comfortable.
Lee Bowers, Ph.D.
To feel occasional anxiety or stress is a normal part of the human condition, especially in today's fast paced world. But if stress is managing you, rather than the other way around, it's time for some help. Not doing so can lead to serious work, relationship, and health problems. There are as many ways to manage stress as there are stressors. Together, we'll find approaches that work for you.
