Anxiety is our body's natural alarm system that tells us when something is wrong. Though sometimes, our alarm system needs to be re-wired a bit. This is what we do in therapy. We first start with looking at the cause of the stress and anxiety, and then together look for ways to manage the feelings that work for you. A psychodynamic approach to anxiety management looks like managing symptoms and then diving a bit deeper to see where our unconscious beliefs and expectations of ourselves merge with how we relate to people and the world. Anxiety is a physical reaction, so being able to tune into what is happening in our body will help us be able to calm it.
