Anxiety and stress are on a continuum that starts with mild excitement and goes up to terror. I use varied approaches in treating anxiety and stress. The first step is to evaluate how strong the feelings are and what seem to be the triggers. Then the client is encouraged to see if the feelings relate to past events and also with bodily sensations happening while talking about them in therapy. There are many tools to decrease and eliminate anxiety...breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, and energy psychology. Also learning self soothing techniques that provide calm and safety. We must all be "our own best friend".
