While it's not always true, many Anxiety Disorders are learned behavior. If a person "learns" to develop anxious behavior, he/she can also learn coping skills to decrease or eliminate anxiety. Stress can affect one's ability to think clearly, and it can also lead to many physical problems. Depending on a person's specific needs and symptoms, I teach progressive muscle relaxation, relaxation breathing, stimulus desensitization and other skills to help individuals decrease or eliminate anxiety and stress. Getting to the core of the anxiety with EMDR can help clients process the event that has created the anxiety desensitizing its triggers to help the client move past the traumatic event. Children can also experience worry and anxiety. These may include things such as problems with friends, problems in school, worry about the future or their parent’s relationship. Getting help is the first step to making change.
