Anxiety is a gripping, extremely uncomfortable feeling. The natural response to anxiety is to do anything you can to get rid of it. So, when you're feeling anxious, you are likely to engage in a variety of behaviors to help you feel better. These might include avoiding places, situations, or people that have made you anxious in the past or it might involve behaviors that help you feel better for a short time. The problem is that avoidance and behaviors that do not directly address the root of the problem don't work to resolve anxiety. My work with anxiety problems has been extremly successful in helping clients address the roots of their anxiety as well as the anxious feelings themselves

Some level of stress and anxiety is to be expected from this world in which we live. However for some people these levels get so high that they negatively impact relationships and quality of life. I will help you identify and start to change these areas that might feel like they are running you. Together we will look at your current stressors and the way you are thinking about them and we'll also work to create better boundaries to protect your relationships and peace of mind.

The person who has experienced trauma tends to go through life as if the trauma were still happening or could happen again at any moment. In treating trauma and other forms of anxiety, we recognize that there are "big T" traumas and "small T" or relational traumas. The "big T's" are those life events that anyone would recognize as trauma: childhood abuse, severe accidents, rape, etc. But the "small T" traumas of childhood neglect, verbal abuse, and other failures to meet developmental needs can also be very debilitating, not only in childhood but long after. As a certified EMDR practitioner, I use careful protocols to desensitize traumatic memories, allowing healing and new growth.

Anxiety is a normal, affect-based response to certain internal and external events. For many people, as anxiety rises it tends to become the focus of their attention and, therefore, to be seen as "the problem." As this happens, the ability to see beyond the upsetting feelings is diminished and the person's life begins to narrow. Learning how to relate differently to one's feelings, including anxiety, is an integral part of the kind of work that I encourage through discussion, the therapeutic relationship, the practice of mindfulness, and the techniques of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

From time to time most of us will experience stress and anxiety. From a neuro-biological perspective, some of us are more prone to anxiety when we feel threatened or defensive. We together can use many strategies to lower the level of anxiety and work through the stress. Some of them include meditation and deep breathing, visualizing and 'anchoring' times you felt competent and have gotten though a stressful event successfully, writing journal of your experiences, using EMDR to visualize experiences in a different way changing your beliefs to positive ones.

There is no escaping anxiety, we all have it. In its appropriate form, anxiety serves as motivation. But when anxiety is destructive and overwhelming it limits our potential. Whether you suffer from insecurity, panic attacks, or general worry, through therapy you will gain insight into the negative thoughts and emotions that maintain your anxiety. You will learn ways to challenge and restructure this negative self talk, while developing new ways to regulate your emotional state. Through this process you will begin to explore and connect with deeper aspects of yourself, and to live a more confident life.

Anxiety and stress stem from the perception that you are not up to whatever challenges life may present. I help people to take a closer look at the ways in which they think that they do not have the resources they need to meet life's challenges. Sometimes this involves finding strengths and resources inside yourself that you did not realize you had. Sometimes is involves having the courage to look for such strength inside yourself and to ask others (such as fellow members of a therapy group) to help you.

Anxiety and stress are a part of life. However how we deal with them can create numerous secondary problems. For many people we learn early how to avoid anxiety and begin to lead limited lives. Sometimes we worsen our lives and are just consumed with fears and anxiety. I have been working with people for over 30 years helping them learn new ways to deal with anxiety and stress and helps them grow and develop.

Anxiety and stress seem to be everyone's typical standard way of life these days...but that doesn't make them any easier to deal with. Though they can certainly be linked, stress and anxiety can be very different, including the way they are treated. From everyday issues to healing from past traumas and losses, anxiety can steal your quality of life. The good news is that anxiety is one area that is particularly receptive to therapy and counseling - much can change in a short period of time with the right intervention and help.

Anxiety and stress makes simple things more difficult and wastes mental energy. You can learn to manage your fears, worries, and panic through therapy. I help people to identify thinking patterns that contribute to their anxiety, to find productive ways to deal with the stress, and feel more in control of their lives. Therapy can also help you to figure out underlying issues that might be contributing to your anxiety.

There are at least four components to reducing anxiety. The first is to learn self-soothing techniques. the second is to become aware of the thoughts and images which are making you anxious and to deliberately choose other thoughts and images. The third is to discover and face what you are most afraid of. Sometimes, when there has been trauma, this fear is something that has already happened and from which you have not recovered. Often it is something out of your control, a fact of life, like death! We need to make peace with these, accept their reality and make the best of what we have. I have some excellent tools from hypnosis and a field of study called NLP to speed your progress.
