Anxiety and Stress reactions aren't unusual or uncommon in today's world. Generally these reactions can range from mild to severe and can be debilitating. Stressors are rampant and how each person approaches a stressful situation is unique. First, I think it is important to meet with a doctor for a full workup to rule out any medical contributors (i.e. thyroid function). Second, I work to help clients identify specifics, what are they doing and what is going on an emotional, cognitive and behavioral levels. Once these patterns are clear and concrete this is calming . Third, learning can take place once a person is calmer and can go on to learning news ways of responding to difficulties.

In treating anxiety, the most impotant issues is interupting the cycle of worry, obessing over worry, fearing the return of worry, and allowing worry to spread to every aspect of your life. Discriminating realistic reasons to worry from irrational reasons can help clients with excessive stress to cope. Interupting and redirecting thoughts of anxiety to more productive thoughts and activities will interupt the cycle that creates habitual anxiety. We will look at times you may over-react to triggers (be it an upcoming social situation, or a stumbling block that creates more stress and predictions of failure). We will take this path together. You are not alone.
