Having worked in the finance industry for many years, I help clients remove their blocks, create clarity and help with work towards their career(dream job). My treatment involves having the client work on: financial plan that includes their goals. We go through obstacles and mental blocks; and their fears of success. Clients feel motivated, they learn how to build resources, change their negative beliefs to positive, and learn new skills to communicate effective.

In my approach to Career Counselling, I am dedicated to helping clients find meaningful and fulfilling career paths that align with their values, interests, and skills. I believe that a satisfying career is essential for overall well-being, and I work collaboratively with clients to explore their career goals, aspirations, and potential obstacles. Through personalized assessments, in-depth discussions, and strategic planning, clients can gain clarity about their professional journey and make informed decisions about their careers.

My approach to career counselling and planning is taken from the now famous resource Designing Your Life. We apply Design Thinking to reframe obstacles to opportunities in creative ways that may be impossible to imagine now. Then we design plans to give you the inspiration and practical experiences that prove what career decision will bring you the greatest happiness, fulfillment, and reward.

Our career can play a huge role in our life as we devote a large amount of our time and energy to it and often seek a sense of purpose and fulfillment. I have personally made a number of scary career transitions while working to fulfill my potential and find joy in what I do and these scary changes that often included working through paralyzing fear and having to get quite creative made me very passionate about supporting others on a similar quest to find more fulfillment in your work and daily life.

While most career counselors love to give you capacity based profiles of what your talents and interests are for your best bet career choices, Grey Matters international believes that most people make predictably irrational decisions and then after making them learn way to make them fit into their identities using various types of rationalizations and strategies. Career counseling, although a ‘named form’ of counseling in itself, is yet quite transient. Usually once I begin working with a client who is requesting career counseling, we find that the hiccups they are experiencing in their quest is based on fear, anxiety and/or stress, health issues, sometimes addictions (or the addictions of others), anger issues, depression, or even shrapnel from their family of origin. So I do not view career counseling as a sole issue but rather a symptom. I love to work in this arena since it allows me to be a CSI agent for an hour, unlocking hidden truths that have become speed bumps along life’s journey to achieve one’s personal best.

I help clients with addictive behaviours or substance use that is interfering with their ability to achieve a fulfilling career. Gaining a sense of control over one's life allows for increased confidence and self-esteem. I help clients build the motivation necessary to take steps toward a future filled with passion, thriving, and mental resilliance.

To use positive psychology language and focus on solution when clients may be wanting to explore other careers or feel stuck in their current one. To assist clients remember and identify past adversities and their history of overcoming situational challenges.

Careers play a huge role in a person's life and can become a source of conflict if the person is unhappy with their chosen path, co-workers/boss, position, income, growth, and/or required efforts/hours. I help clients navigate their personal career struggles to find solutions to their turmoil. For some that looks like finding a better suited career while for others it can be communication strategies to help them resolve the issues at their current employment. Whatever the case, we develop a clear plan to resolve the career issue at hand.

I look forward to helping clients through career counselling in making difficult transitions easier. I believe in first developing meaningful connections with my clients. Instead of relying on career aptitude tests and personality tests I will want to understand the clients' worries and desires. I will look to setting up specific goals with my clients and redirecting them to their goals.

Career counselling may involve exploring career direction and it may also involve dealing with issues that occur in one's working life, such as those in the workplace. When exploring a career path, the client's whole self needs to be taken into consideration, including one's history and dreams (waking and sleeping.) Of particular importance is one's "inner voice" which may be calling one in a particular direction. Work situations often open up old wounds and therefore often provide an opportunity for healing and transformation.

Working from TA perspective can provide clients with the tools and concepts applicable to both personal and professional development. Helping clients explore their interests, their likes, wishes and dreams will open the door for a co-creative process of finding one's talents, growing them and applying them in practice.

We spend up to 1/3 of our life in our careers!! As a former Human Resources Manager this is an area that is really exciting. Not only will I help you identify your skill set, but help you identify your passion, your purpose and your personality type that will help you see what career is best suited to you. I can also help you identify and develop areas that will help you expand your interviewing skills, your social media profile, your resume and your confidence and also understand the hiring climate that you are in.

Career counselling has progressed away from computer generated test scores and more along the lines of inquiry to individual likes and tendencies. This is the approach I adopt. Together we complete a Career Development Workbook, uncovering inclinations and passions using talking and connection to self and others as our tools. Once up to 3 career choices have been made, a referral to Workplace BC is often helpful for the next steps in market and career research for your choices.

And yet, there can also be stifling logistical constraints, a lack of opportunities, and precarious markets.
