A question I hear often is "What am I meant to do, be?" This leads to a popular misconception that there is one particular job that I'm meant to be doing. The focus then becomes external; what is out there waiting for me to find? I suggest that a work life of meaning and passion comes out of an internal exploration of personal values and priorities. We will work together to bring into conscious awareness those barriers that block your passion and discover what matters most to you. What brings you joy and a sense of purpose and meaning.

Career counseling, although a ‘named form’ of counseling in itself, is yet quite transient. Usually once I begin working with a client who is requesting career counseling, we find that the hiccups they are experiencing in their quest is based on fear, anxiety and/or stress, health issues, sometimes addictions (or the addictions of others), anger issues, depression, or even shrapnel from their family of origin. So I do not view career counseling as a sole issue but rather a symptom. I love to work in this arena since it allows me to be a CSI agent for an hour, unlocking hidden truths that have become speed bumps along life’s journey to achieve one’s personal best.
Kim White, M.A.,RCC, CPCC
As a coach and a therapist, I bring a breadth and depth of skills required to help you on the path towards your chosen career. Even if that specific career is not yet named, through guided conversations, coaching and effective psychometrics we first build self awareness, uncover your strengths and then create strategies to define success in your terms. Whether you are seeking a first career or looking to bring more pleasure to your life's work, career counselling can help you set a course of action to create the next chapter of your life.
Devorah Peterson, M.Ed., RCC
Career counselling may involve exploring career direction and it may also involve dealing with issues that occur in one's working life, such as those in the workplace. When exploring a career path, the client's whole self needs to be taken into consideration, including one's history and dreams (waking and sleeping.) Of particular importance is one's "inner voice" which may be calling one in a particular direction. Work situations often open up old wounds and therefore often provide an opportunity for healing and transformation.

Our careers represent personal pathways that offer meaning and purpose in our lives as well providing an occupation and a livelihood in a more material sense. As such, we are bound to experience a wide range of emotions and challenges as we proceed along the path of our life's work. This can manifest in terms of a profound questioning as well as a day to day navigating the conditions that characterize our work context. Learning to maximize our human potential at every turn while moderating the reactivity and stress that can arise at these very points is at the heart of what career work is about.. Both big choices and small impact the decisions shaping our direction -- consultation is key.

It can be difficult to know what kind of work you would like to do, and often we put pressure on ourselves to figure it out. This pressure only makes things harder and can make us less clear about our options, as we get stuck in negative thought patterns. There are many choices and sometimes we do not know what kind of career we are best suited to. I work alongside people to help them discover what they are passionate about. Together we will explore creative ways to work with your aptitudes. Sometimes the very act of getting to know yourself on a deeper level can open up doorways to a path that you may not have expected.
Glenda Lagasse, M.A., R.C.C.
