My approach to career counselling includes an appreciation for the fact that work needs to include joy and purpose, or it's just a job. As I help people build skills relationally and increase self-awareness around their needs and respect for others, they will grow in confidence and reduce stress that can hijack their best version of themselves. I love to help people become more aware of their capacity and vulnerabilities, so they grow in competency. This has a way of increasing their experience of joy and purpose in the workplace or find the courage to make a change.

Your career can be fulfilling - you need to decide to make it so. We will uncover what your career goals are, whether that is in your current work life or something different. We will consider many aspects including your inner desires, your short and long term goals, and we will assess your strengths and interests. From there, we you will work on exercises and specific action plans to uncover if your interests are truly that. Step-by-step we will work toward uncovering a more fulfilling career.

There can be a lot of pressure to figure out one’s career or to decide where one fits within a particular field. Oftentimes this is a winding road rather than a straight route. Within therapy, I will support you in identifying and exploring the values, goals, interests, and passions most important to you so that you can make decisions about your career that feel right to you. I will also work with you to process possible obstacles along the way such as (and certainly not limited to) challenging work dynamics, stress and burnout, and difficulties finding a work/life balance. To use positive psychology language and focus on solution when clients may be wanting to explore other careers or feel stuck in their current one. To assist clients remember and identify past adversities and their history of overcoming situational challenges.

Changing careers by returning to university education in my forties gives me unique insight into the possibilities.
