When a child struggles, a parent struggles's 10x more. Sometimes, we just don't know what to do make it better. I can help. Issues children experience such as, anger, low self-esteem, being bullied, prolonged nightmares, discipline problems are best addressed when they occur. Together, we will help your child work through the problem. I believe you, the parent are the best resource for solutions. Who knows your child better than you? I will provide you support and methods/tools to continue helping your child at home. I incorporate Sand Tray and Play therapy techniques in our sessions, as these work well with young children who have difficulty communicating what's bothering them.

Children have a developmental need to play. Children of divorce experience grief and loss and benefit from play and recognition of feelings & emotions. My work helps reinforce attention, focus & "on task" behavior. We do role plays/ improvs, creative arts, music & sensory integration. I assist children in recognition & practice of appropriate social skills to increase peer success at home & at school. I collaborate with teachers, school staff and parents to utilize a team-approach. Students who have academic challenges most often experience anxiety, depression and/or social struggles, I work with the family to enhance skill deficits and provide support to child and their family.

I tend to take less of an approach of "talk therapy" and more of an approach of "play therapy" with young children. Children have a hard time expressing emotions, but letting them play it out or create me a picture tells me more sometimes than words can. I'm also trained in sandtray therapy, which is using small toys in a small sandbox to tell me the story or problem. Depending on the age, I do see young children individually. I also may suggest seeing them with the family to work on how this one individual is affecting everyone.
