As a Licensed Family Therapist, I realize that children face a variety of issues in their young lives which affect them. Divorce, loss, stress at home, fear, etc. often cause children to act our or misbehave. When children are in pain, they do the only thing they know how to do; lash out, act out, or get sad and depressed. Children don't have the capacity to understand their feelings and don't have the language to describe how they are feeling. In therapy with children, through art and play therapy, I help them and their parent/s to express feelings in a creative and safe way. Many times, working alone with the parents, I help them develop strategies for helping their child.

Youth Connection is an intensive program for those individuals who suffer from addiction, but are also faced with the challenges of young adulthood. Teenagers and young adults, 18 – 25 years of age, who suffer from drug or alcohol addiction often find themselves dealing with additional pressures. They may have trouble with their workload at school, associate with delinquent peers, suffer from a lack parental supervision, or just generally exhibit feelings of inadequacy, poor self-image, or even depression. They have not learned the necessary skills that would otherwise enable them to cope with everyday life situations.

Children act out on how they feel; if they are having behavioral issues, it is usually because there is something off-kilter with them, or with their situation. If you are able to identify the cause, many times the behavior will significantly subside. Thus, it pays to explore, with the child, what they are experiencing and what might be causing them to feel stressed.
