Licensed Professional Counselor

3505 Adkisson Dr. Suite 152, Cleveland, Tennessee 37312

Children are the most precious gift this world has to offer! We have worked with young children and adolescents and are passionate about helping them and their families however we can. Through play therapy, therapuetic story telling, family therapy, and individual sessions we believe that any child can be healed from past hurt, abuse, depression, fear, or disruptive behavior due to their inner hurt. Our approach is to work with the child and family for complete healing and encouragement overall, not quick, temporary fixes. We would love to meet your child and see exactly how we can help!

Amanda Gilliam, M.S.

Licensed Marital & Family Therapist

An important aspect of counseling is meeting a person where they are. For children, traditional conversation will not allow a child to fully express themselves. Play is the language of children. through play therapy and expressive art therapy, children are given the opportunity to communicate through these avenues and process their trauma, thoughts and feelings and allow me to meet them where they are. In turn this allows me to communicate with the family system the most effective ways to support their child during difficult times.

Families play an important role in children's healing processes. The interaction between children's problems and their families is always complex. Sometimes children develop problems as a way of signaling that there is something wrong in the family. Other times the entire family becomes distressed because the child's problems are so disruptive. In all cases, children and families heal faster when they work together. I assist parents with parenting skills through psychoeducation and coaching. We work together to develop age appropriate discipline and parenting. Involved in this process are family sessions with parents and children together so that family issues can be resolved.

Is your child "out of control" and will not listen to anything you say? Or maybe your child has "ants in their pants" and cannot sit still or focus? I can help! Children are my passion. They are our tomorrow so I will invest in them today. Children have a lot to say, but most adults don't speak "kid language." I do! When I work with a child, I want them to know they are "seen and heard." That makes all the difference. Through play therapy, a child feels safe enough to "act out" emotions, past/current traumas, and struggles through the toys they choose and in themes of play. Once a child works through their play, symptoms often times subside.

Licensed Psychologist

Is your child struggling with nightmares, tantrums, fear, bed wetting, incontinence, or trauma? We strongly feel that early intervention is the best method. Rather than allowing patterns and behaviors to become ingrained, we help children through expressive play therapy to process emotions, confront fears, and develop new skills/behaviors. We often find that parents are too close to their children to see when there are significant problems developing and it is the voice of teachers, friends, or other parents that make subtle suggestions about getting your child some additional resources. Pay attention to those suggestions they might see something you do not see. We are here to help!

I use a very fun, energetic approach to relate to and motivate kids to change their behaviors to help them with their issues. Learning to accept that we can't change other people, but we can change ourselves is one of the hardest, yet most important lessons that kids will learn in life. Helping them learn to express themselves through appropriate and effective communication skills is also something that they can take with them and use all their lives.
