It can be very difficult as a parent to address all of your child's needs and issues. As a play therapist I have specialized training in utilizing an effective approach to help your child achieve healing and the family to restore relationships. Children often can suffer from the same issues that we can have as adults but express it in different ways. This is often misunderstood and requires a unique approach with parents to help find the ways to manage behaviors and explore problems within a child's life. My experience includes counseling children with an abuse or trauma history, ADHD, and Autism.

My focus with young children is to build a secure bond with a caregiver. Attachment theory and research has found that the more securely connected we are, the more self confident we are in life. Attachment always asks the question, "Can I depend on you when I need you?" Often circumstances happen so that a child is more anxious and clingy or the opposite avoiding closeness. Theraplay consists of activities consists of activities done between a caregiver and the child so that a secure bond can be built. Also, children need structure. Love and Logic principles will be taught so that a child can receive consequences for negative behavior.

Through the technology and media advancements today our children are experiencing things so much earlier than we did as kids. This can leave children trying to make meaning out of life events and situations that we as adults struggle with. I have found that through play and art therapy we can create a space for them to process these thoughts, feelings and beliefs. The goal is to help them give voice to what they are experiencing while finding resources to help them get through it in a healthy manner.
