I am trained in directive (theraplay) and non-directive play therapy, and EMDR with children. My approach to counseling and helping children is obtain a thorough history and list of concerns from both parents, and assess the child through their play and interaction with me. I love the energy and ability of children to heal, even without words. I am also trained in Trust Based Relational Intervention for kiddos with attachment issues.

Working with young children means first earning their trust as well as the trust of parents, and second working with parents to understand what are considered normal stages of development. It is important also to work with parents regarding appropriate and long lasting discipline to help the child learn appropriate behaviors. Finally many children are very resilient and their ability to cope in difficult situations is beneficial to help the child move past any trauma they have experienced.

A parent is only as happy as their saddest child. It is extremely painful to watch our children suffer and be at a loss of what is going on or how to help them. I am a certified Play Therapist and work with children ages 2 and up. When a child is acting out that is a sign that something is wrong in their world. Play Therapy is the preferred form of therapy for children under the age of ten and it is highly effective for children suffering from abuse, neglect, bullying, low self esteem, divorce etc. Play was a child's first language and we use play in session to gain insight into what is going on in a child's world when they don't have the ability to put words to it themselves.

Is your relationship with your child going rapidly out of control? Have you found it more and more difficult to discipline your child? Are you worried that something might be seriously wrong with a child in your life? I can help. I have been working with children and teens for over twenty years as a counselor and a minister. I come from the perspective that God has made each child beautiful. I believe that out-of-control behavior is often a child’s way of expressing things they have no other way to express. Together, we can explore new ways to interact with your child. I can help you find real-world interventions that are not only more effective, but that also work for you .

It can be very difficult as a parent to address all of your child's needs and issues. As a play therapist I have specialized training in utilizing an effective approach to help your child achieve healing and the family to restore relationships. Children often can suffer from the same issues that we can have as adults but express it in different ways. This is often misunderstood and requires a unique approach with parents to help find the ways to manage behaviors and explore problems within a child's life. My experience includes counseling children with an abuse or trauma history, ADHD, and Autism.

As an art therapist, I use creative interventions for children and teens to express themselves. I spent many years working with children and teens in inpatient psychiatric and residential facilities. When children feel "heard," they can begin the process of healing from issues that might be plaguing them. As a marriage and family therapist, my goal is to offer tools for families to open up channels of communication with one another, and create environments in which each family member can thrive. As a parent of young children and teenagers, my combination of real world experience and years of working with children in a therapeutic setting has prepared me for this work in private practice.

As a Marriage and family therapist, I have been trained to work with the whole family. Young children require a unique therapist. A therapist who is willing to get down on their level, literally and see them. Young children need space and opportunity to build trust so they feel comfortable allowing you into their hurt and pain. I am also trained in EMDR Therapy which can be an incredible resource with children.

I enjoy working with Children 12 years and older. Pre-teens and teenagers are going through so much and are living in a world that they receive so many messages by the media! It is hard to make good decisions with the onslaught of messages they are bombarded with. Counseling can help a young child to feel safe enough to open up and begin to address 'scary things' in their lives. It would be an honor for me to work with your child.

Children are not miniature adults. The way they see the world is different. They often don't have words to express how they are feeling so you will often see them act out with negative behaviors. Helping children learn to express themselves in healthy ways, learn about their emotions, and work through the issues they struggle with is very important to me. The things they go though as a child can and will shape who they are throughout life. I hope to make it as positive and healthy as possible.
