I have always had a passion for working with kids, and find that when a child feels heard and validated, they open up and connect very easily. I never pressure a child to talk to me, and instead discuss mutual interests and fun activities as a way to build rapport. Typically, I find that when a child is empowered with the skills to manage his or her emotions and communicate their thoughts and feelings effectively, they walk through the world with a different level of confidence and more willingness to make healthy choices. This often comes with making small tweaks to the home environment so that parents are children are connecting in a healthier and more effective way.

Children need to be heard and understood. If not given a voice they will hold their thoughts and feelings in and then burst in temper tantrums and or act out. Maybe severe anger or withdrawal, they do need help. We use play therapy as well as talk therapy. We bring parents and families together again. What ever it is remember we are as "sick as our secrets"! Lets help our children not be the isolators of tomorrow , but rather the leaders of the world. Let them have a voice.

Working with children can be complicated because of two primary factors. The first factor deals with the fact that children are dependent on adults. Their own problems affect them, and adults' (parents') issues and behaviors affect them. The question is: how does one determine whether the children's problems are coming from them or from their environment? Parental involvement in the therapy process is paramount for the success of children in therapy. Parents can help by talking about the behaviors their children are experiencing as well as the context of those behaviors.
