Counselling children takes a special approach and a great deal of patience. Most of the children I see are acting out some unspoken stress that exists between the parents. If a child does not deal with these issues, they can continue to cause problems, even into adulthood. Two year-old children will often freely tell my associate (a stuffed teddy bear) what they are having to deal with. Older children find it much harder and it can take time to get to the root of their troubles. Children need to be heard, have their point of view validated, and their potential affirmed.
