I offer in-person services to children (8+) and online services to children (10+). Children may experience increased stress or symptoms related to anxiety when they go through a transition or change (e.g., new school, new teacher, friend issues, divorce, and etc.). When symptoms related to ADHD/OCD often parents are asked to be apart of the counselling process. This can be parents directly participating in the counselling process, or separate parent meetings to discuss parental challenges and learn coping strategies, or discuss co-parenting strategies when parents are divorced.

Children can experience various challenges that can impact their mental health. Therapy can offer children a safe space and a listening ear while providing different tools and skills to support them in creating change and alleviating distressing emotions and feelings. When working with young children, I seek to get to know them and create a caring, safe and interactive environment where they can explore and learn about their feelings, work through difficulties, better understand themselves and others and learn new ways of engaging with themselves and the world. Schedule a free consultation with me to see if we are a good fit.

Families are the building blocks of life - the foundation for strong, independent and resilient kids. When families succeed, children succeed. When caregivers understand their kids, their kids feel like super stars! But if parenting was easy, there wouldn't be thousands of books on the subject! The best way to support young children is to teach their parents to be their therapist. Everything children need can be found within the (metaphorical) arms of their caregivers. When kids feel heard, listened to, loved, liked, significant and that they MATTER, then they will flourish! Occasionally, other factors can get in the way... and we can figure out those things out too!

Growing up can be challenging and sometimes leave youth feeling confused, frustrated, or misunderstood. I strive to make them feel accepted for who they are and feel heard and validated. Promoting a safe and judgment free environment is a priority and necessary for youth to be able to let their guard down and communicate openly. Together we look at areas of life that are challenging for them and identify the factors that are contributing to the difficulties they are experiencing. We then work on managing those areas more effectively by developing positive coping strategies and emotions management skills. I have a passion working with youth and encourage you to book a free consultation.

Children explore and make sense of their world through imagination and play, so why should therapy be any different? Your child will experience upbeat, playful, and engaging ways to tackle even the most difficult/serious problems. My hope is that our sessions will be a place where your child experiences themselves as capable, knowledgable, and clever. And hey, let's still find a way to have some fun too! I've been told by many parents that their kids are so excited for the next session they can't wait to come back... A far cry from feeling like you have to convince them to do something. *Please note, I work particularly well with children from the ages of six years old and up.

Children are often impacted by family dynamics and for that reason, at Psychotherapy Collective our approach to working with children aged 6-11 is a family based approach. While I do not work with children under the age of 12, we have many therapists on our team who work with children aged 6-11. I encourage you to view our approach to child and family therapy (https://www.psychotherapycollective.ca/services/child-and-family-therapy) and schedule a consultation with one of our family therapists to see if they are the proper fit for your journey.
