Research has shown that the best approach for young children is the involvement of the significant adults in their lives. Care givers must understand and support the needs of the child. Further, children are a mirror for what is going on inside of us, emotionally, no matter how we "behave" on the outside. Their brains are "hard wired" to read non-verbal cues. If you feel your own negative feelings or ways of coping are impacting your child's behaviours or emotional regulation, focus, etc. please feel free to talk to me about it. I am a mother of three. I and am also well versed in children's conditions and symptoms, incl. ADHD and Anxiety as I worked extensively in Child Mental Health.
Ema Nardella, M.ED., T.C., S.S.C.
I use play therapy for young children. Children use great imagination with puppets/playhouses for example. Even for severe trauma/loss children rework difficult issues through play especially when the therapist/adult gets down to the same level and plays alongside, Significant others can be taught to play following the child's lead/language to carry on effective techniques with the child at home. I used to teach high needs children in the public school system with good results. Individual/family work provides an even better avenue for success. ADHD is often a common issue in my practice that this gentle 1 to 1 approach can give lasting results. Chidren benefit quickly from relational therapy
Sarah Chana Radcliffe, M.Ed., C.Psych.Assoc.
I teach parents how to be the primary "therapists" for their children. Although children will sometimes need their own individual counseling, there are times when parents can apply interventions at home that will help children behave better, have fewer tantrums, perform better in school, sleep better, overcome certain fears and phobias, have higher self-esteem and so on. My book "Raise Your Kids without Raising Your Voice" has helped thousands of parents learn techniques to bring out the best in their kids and themselves. In counseling, I address individual challenges that children have and design specific interventions.
Bill Huggins, Ph.D.
My children's work is very specific and focused. I work with parents who are having school issues. As a former teacher I know what buttons to push. As a father of 4 and grandfather of 7 I know firsthand the
characteristics of children. My other focus is working with parents and lawyers to determine the desires
of the child in custody or divorce proceedings. I work hand in hand with a female co therapist to
ascertain the correct strategies and solutions. With parental permission I will use outside consult if appropriate.

The first session is a meeting with the child's custodial parent(s), to obtain the necessary history and concerns observed or reported. Play therapy is the method used with young children. This involves the use of toys, arts and crafts, and puppet play. Psychoeducational materials, such as books are also included in the sessions as needed. When appropriate, parents will be included in the therapy, as children are encouraged to turn to their primary supports for direction outside of therapy and of course upon the end of counselling.

I’m a mother of six, so I understand kids and all the interesting stages they tend to go through! Young children are naturally creative beings. That’s why they really catch on to the principles that I teach. I speak to them on an age appropriate level about the concept of thought. Here’s an example: What’s thought? Thought is like a beautifully wrapped gift. You can open it up and find a consolation prize and then you’ll feel kind of sad and be in a low mood, or you can open your gift and find exactly what you’ve been hoping to get (fill in the blank here:), and you’ll feel really good and be in a good mood. That’s how thought works!

Many children grapple with unresolved problems, trauma, and emotional pain. Children suffer from specialized problems such as bed wetting, soiling, ADHD, and attachment issues. Counselling can help children resolve current problems, as well as provide tools to cope with life challenges later on. My therapeutic approach for young children is play therapy. In play therapy, your child uses dolls, art, and games to express thought, experiences, feelings, and conflicts. For older children I use specialized impulse control training techniques. Children of all ages can suffer from trauma. I use trauma reduction techniques that facilitate healing and adjustment. Please call for help & support!

I often work with parents to help them with their young child's problems. When parents learn more effective parenting strategies, they are able to effect major improvements in their child's behaviour and well-being. Children often benefit from not being identified as patients. However, each case is unique. Sometimes a young child does need psychotherapy. I work with each family to find the right approach for them. Common problems include sleep and eating issues, tantrums, unwillingness to attend school, phobias, self-destructive behaviours, depression, and bullying. I help parents become more competent, decreasing the need for future psychotherapy and improving family relationships.
Ann Matson, B.A. Sc. B ED. OCT, OACCPP
Young children are faced with many issues and challenges including divorce recovery, anxiety, depression, ADHD, addictions and others. The approach taken is not only a cognitive approach but a practical “hands on” , “activity based” exercise approach. Pet therapy, art therapy and solution and strength based methods are used for the child in order to reinforce certain cognitive methods of thinking. As a professional, I have had extensive training and a lengthy amount of experience (16 years) in dealing with all ages including young child to youth to young adult. Possible other topics include goal building, personality type, career exploration, safe coping strategies and many more

Children learn by trial, error and parental guidance, and when faced with new situations or expectations, emotions will surface as a normal reaction. Young children have limited communication skills, and often a temper tantrum is the only means to communicate that they need help.
However, when severe emotional symptoms develop into an unhealthy pattern, parents should seek professional help. As an Expressive Arts therapist, I enter the child's world of emotions and thinking through play, art and music. Children love to play. It is their language of communication. Let me offer you my help to explore goals, solutions, coping skills and support for your child. 905-842-3626

Early socialization is optimal timing for counselling, education, skills training, and learning. Infants, toddlers, children, and youth are in a constant state of growth and development physically, and socially. It is here that I bring to you and your family a host of assets that can assist with transitions, developmental stages, personality phases, and adjustments. Children need positive reinforcement as a key factor in every learning that occurs. I will help you and your youth learn ways of coping with stress, grief, adjustments, siblings, schooling, and or divorce-seperation. Developmental Disabilities is also a specialty of mine (Autism Spectrum Disorders, Aspergers, and ADHD).
Robert T. Muller, Ph.D., C.Psych.
Parents bring their young children or adolescents to see me for counselling when they are having severe conflicts with them, when they see that their kids are struggling with school-work or with peer relationships, and when their children are experiencing psychological distress such as anxiety, depression, or difficulty adjusting to change. In all my work, I include the parents as partners in the treatment process.

There are a wide range of issues that affect children - they are vulnerable to many kinds of maltreatment and increasing stressors in our culture. However children often find it difficult to express their feelings and fears, which means that problems can be left undetected and unresolved. It is helpful then, to seek professional help if a child seems unhappy or distressed. With children, the construction of a trusting relationship between counsellor and client is especially important. Sometimes the counsellor will use puppets or sandboxes or play therapy to allow the child to tell their own story. In a safe trusting environment, the child can find their way towards emotional health.
