My approach to Christians who come for counseling is to harmoniously apply Biblical principles and psychological concepts to the issue/s you are experiencing. This provides a way of being which balances the physical, mental and spiritual laws of God with a "down-to-earth" human experience which gives credit for each unique person and her/his capabilities. Included in this is correcting faulty views of the world, developing competencies in social living, and accepting oneself as a person of worth.

For many Christians it is important that a counselor share the same values that they do. I take into consideration my Christian values in all areas of counseling while working with other Christians. It is important to remember that our Heavenly Father loves us unconditionally and that never changes. He loves us with all of our flaws and that love does not have to be earned. If we had no flaws we would not need Christ.

Our goal is that each client would have their unique needs met to achieve their personal goals. To that end, we offer faith-based or Christian counseling for those clients who desire it. We look to the client to let us know if they want to incorporate their faith into sessions, and to what extent. We do not assume that every client wants to address spirituality in his or her sessions, and during the first session we work with the client to create a plan to best meet his or her specific needs. Respect is a core value at GROW, and regardless of the client’s politics, worldview, or faith, we seek to meet them where they are and provide resources that will help them reach their individual goals.

You don't have to be Christian to be a client, but for authentic healing to occur, I see no other way. My approach is to point others to the true source of love, while doing what I can (however small in comparison) to be a vessel in which that can occur. Living in a world among naturally fallen people we cannot help but pick up lies about our worth and identity. One of my biggest passions is listening to where untruths may have caught up with clients, and then encouraging them to call on Christ for the opportunity to re-write their God intended stories. Furthermore, a Biblical Worldview takes me out as the final decision maker providing an agreed upon framework on which to rely.
