As a Christ-follower I understand the role spirituality plays in all dimensions of life. In fact, one of my favorite verses contains these words of Christ, "I have come that they may have life and have it to the full." (John 10:10) In order to have a full life it takes work on God's part and ours. God's virtues of grace, mercy, and unconditional love are powerful motivators for transformation. As we embrace these virtues, God empowers us to live a full life. I offer Christian counseling to individuals, couples, and/or families who value their relationship with Christ and understand that he plays a primary role in the change they seek.

As a former Sunday School teacher I witnessed each week how the Christian faith lifted and comforted parishioners who were struggling with a personal crisis. People who have faith in God and Jesus Christ feel less alone and more worthy of love. Even during times of great pain and loss, they feel that God still loves them and they are not alone. Christians believe their life has a purpose and they have a responsibility to fulfil their God-given talents and potential. Christians have the comfort from believing that they will be forgiven for their mistakes, and that their lives are precious.

I strive to meet clients where they are at in their faith journey, and incorporate solid Biblically based principles into the therapy process. In addition to referencing the Bible, I also recommend books and materials that are also helpful to meeting my clients needs written by Christian authors who also apply Biblical principles in their works. Prayer and spiritual growth are also incorporated into the counseling as well.

I am a Christian, and I am very comfortable sharing that information with others. Although I may not agree with the specific beliefs of a particular form of Christianity, I do not believe that it is appropriate for me to judge, and I am accepting of differences. I am able to discuss the impact of our beliefs on our behavior; I am also able to encourage the use of our beliefs as a form of support.

As a former seminarian of 7 years, I have found the importance of integrating spirituality and current best practice psychotherapy treatment approaches in the healing process. My therapy is grounded on sound psychotherapy approaches for change with a solid integration of Christian principles and biblical connections. Areas of change are discussed, assessed and resolved in a compassionate and collaborative manner so you can achieve spritual. emotional health, wellness and happiness. As necessary referrals are made to pastoral ministers for spritual struggles lying outside the counseling arena.

I don't think of myself as a Christian Counselor. I have no degrees in divinity. I have read parts, but not all, of the Bible. If you are like me, you search for truth and meaning in your life. You ask yourself, "What does God want me to do?" What if God wants you to do what YOUR heart tells you to do? It seems to me that the real question for Christians is "Do I believe that God has my back?" That is what I struggle with. No matter how much evidence I see in my own life that God is present, I get fearful. I'm afraid God will let me down. If that fear invades your mind too, then maybe we can talk it out. What I know is that psychology and the mind are only half the truth. The other half is the spirit and faith.

As well as being a psychologist, I am a United Methodist pastor, and I often use a spiritual approach in counseling. The Abrahamic faiths offer a particular kind of wisdom that is closely aligned with therapy, and offer a set of tools that can be used to treat anxiety, depression, and trauma. We are blessed with the ability to apply scripture, reason, tradition, and experience to work through our issues.
