When clients express a desire to incorporate spirituality or Christianity into our counseling sessions, this is a valuable resource that I will utilize to expand secular approaches to counseling. Identifying and utilizing resources that individuals and couples can utilize in their growth and healing is an integral component of counseling, and faith can be a valuable support on this journey.

Many people call themselves Christian counselors when in fact they are just Christians who use secular mental health care treatments. That does not describe me. My basic idea or paradigm is that Christian counseling is God working through His healing gifts in me and my training to bring deep mental, emotional, and spiritual healing to bear on a person's life problems or on their diagnosed disorders. It is God at work healing through me. He makes mental health treatments divinely effective as only He can through healing counseling and healing prayer. I describe this in great detail with many people's stories in my forthcoming book, "Essentials of Christian Healing."

I believe that we are all on a spiritual journey, and each of us are at different points in this path. When providing Christian counseling, I work from where you are currently in your faith journey. Faith is used as part of the solution to your presenting issue and scriptural references and other faith-based means will be incorporated, if you desire. God has a process for taking us from a broken and hurting state to restoring us so that we can function in a healthy way again. It's my hope that you can move from your place of hurt, frustration, or maybe even despair, to living a life of hope, purpose, and joy.

I believe God often turns us inward through our walk and makes us aware of certain aspects of our lives that need some attention...maybe it is about forgiving yourself or somebody else, about letting go of something you are trying to control versus letting God be in charge, or about learning to love yourself because He wants you to embrace that you are His loving creation. As we tackle the areas of your life that brought you to my office, we can also invite His presence into those areas that you have struggled with. Just like Jesus tells us to give Him our burden in Mathew 11:28-30, I believe God is always calling us to invite Him into our most vulnerable burdened areas, and to surrender.

Based on my Christian roots I believe the marital relationship is the backbone and center of society. My passion is helping couples recover from the challenges that life throws at them. In addition to providing marriage counseling, I've created a Florida Premarital Preparation Course that is completely online and provides couples with an opportunity learn about love and relationships and to get their marriage off on the right foot. Although the course doesn't include bible versus it's based on love and the joining of two souls. It's my hope that you will consider taking my course. The cost is $19.99. If you are in Florida, you will save $32.50 off your FL Marriage License. www.drdarienzo.com
