My mission to help you find freedom from the tyranny of yourself, from some vice, a mindset, a toxic relationship, from guilt, from insecurty, from fear, from old pain. Counseling from a Christian world view is a process in which the counselor and the client walk together towards the full and meaningful life that God offers through the person of Jesus Christ. The primary goals are 1) to “reframe” uncomfortable, distressing or perplexing situations into opportunities for healing, growth, change and restoration 2) give some real, doable, practical steps to take and 3) orient people towards a much larger story that is unfolding alongside their own.

My Christian faith is very in important to me, and I am always open to discussing any issue from a Christian/faith perspective, upon request of a client. I am very sensitive to the fact that some of my clients are not coming from a Christian perspective. I will always respect that, and will never push or "proselytize" my faith beliefs onto someone indiscriminately.

While most Christian Counselors pride themselves on how many Scriptural passages they can recite and how many links they can make from the Bible to psychological disorders, the Christian-centric work of Grey Matters International, Inc.is grounded in one principle: truth. For us, the work is more about truth and transparency of Christ's message and working on the natural laws of accountability and decision making that evolves from that. If one honors God's natural laws of reaping and sowing around the decisions one makes, one is indeed living Scripture to its fullest. I believe that we are all on a spiritual journey, and each of us are at different points in this path. When providing Christian counseling, I work from where you are currently in your faith journey. Faith is used as part of the solution to your presenting issue and scriptural references and other faith-based means will be incorporated, if you desire. God has a process for taking us from a broken and hurting state to restoring us so that we can function in a healthy way again. It's my hope that you can move from your place of hurt, frustration, or maybe even despair, to living a life of hope, purpose, and joy.

Is a Christian Counseling perspective important to you in therapy? As an experienced Christian Counselor and ordained pastor, over the last 15 years I’ve been blessed to help hundreds of men find hope and healing using both psychological and Biblical principles. I believe that Christ is the ultimate source of hope and healing in this life. But I also believe that he’s given us the gift of rational minds, able to discern scientific and psychological truths built into the fabric of His amazing creation. My approach is grounded firmly in Scripture, but I don’t use Scripture as a weapon. You don’t need more guilt, but rather, a reminder of God’s promises and a compassionate guide to support you.

I have counseled using a practical yet Grace-oriented, Biblical approach for over twenty-five years because I am committed to helping people overcome life’s struggles. I seek to address the deeper issues of heart and mind as well as addressing the nuts and bolts practical problems which can provide not only immediate relief and hope but long term joy and healing.

Our deepest wounds are often those that are at the hands of another person. Human brokenness is the root of our need for redemption. This holds true in therapy and growth work as well. When we encounter our deep wounds, we encounter our need for our Big God. Here, we are able to reconcile the broken our hurt parts of our ourselves. Dr. Vanes been a pastor's wife for 15 years and is trained in integrated counseling with Masters degrees in Theology, Clinical Psychology, and Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific Universality.
