I work with couples from two perspectives: PREPARE and REPAIR. PREPARE work is undertaken in the first five years or so of a relationship. Modeling, practice and reinforcement of skills for empathy, listening, emotion regulation, attunement, and time-out happen before dysfunctional patterns are established. Relationship satisfaction is increased over the long run. REPAIR work is harder. Once dysfunctional patterns are ingrained or betrayal (sexual or other) experienced, relationship repair must be mediated and trust restored.
