Many clients say that I have a spiritual gift for counseling couples. There's nothing more gratifying than turning around a marriage that almost ended in divorce. I use “Emotionally Focused Therapy” by Sue Johnson and “Gottman Method Couples Therapy” by John and Julie Gottman. Both methods have been researched over 40 years. Now we know exactly what creates masters and disasters of marriage. Statistics show that 75-85% of marriages are saved when using these two therapies. If prior couples therapy did not work for you, I recommend you see a counselor trained in these two methods. Read my educational articles and client stories on my website: www.Flourishing-Lives.com.

When two individuals commit to sharing lives together, even what seems to be the smallest stressor can be challenging at times. Relationships require time, commitment and investment in one another to face challenges large and small. Problems with one partner or both can weigh heavy on the relationship and can be explored to overcome. When couples are willing to address concerns and formulate solutions together, most relational distress is manageable. When this tension is left unaddressed, this can often breed resentment, greater obstacles, and deeper pain in the relationship. Whether you are dating, pre-marital, or have been married, couples counseling can be healthy for anyone looking to strengthen and maintain relationships.

Couple Counseling in Asheville, NC We have a built in urge to couple up and be connected. So, feeling attracted or 'falling in love' is the easy part. But, learning how to merge two lives together takes more than love alone. That's where couple counseling offers specialized guidance. My couple counseling emphasizes developing practical day to day habits that strengthen your connection - and the ways to manage your differences without arguments or fights. Everyone wants this in their relationship, but few have had a chance to learn what really works for it to happen. Counseling is an effective way to discover how to have the relationship you want, without the heartache of trial and error.

See marriage counseling. My approach is pretty much the same for all couples. Obviously with married partners the issue of divorce or separation is sometimes on the table, which adds to the complexity, though long term unmarried couples face the same feelings minus some of the legal complications. Couples of whatever background or level of commitment can benefit from taking responsibility for their issues, learning effective expression of differences, and learning how to listen to each other.

Couples counseling can include pre-marriage counseling where the couple will be given a clear Biblical understanding of God's design for marriage. Topics that will be covered include communication, faith, family issues, finances, and the physical. Also included is the use of the temperament profile which gives couples the basic reasons why they do what they do.

My approach to couples counseling combines three of the most popular current methods of relationship counseling. All three begin with simple techniques and education in order to help couples decrease tension and bitterness, if it exists. We then, in a non-judgmental environment, explore ways to develop a deeper bond of trust. When couples can deeply trust one another, it becomes much easier to develop habits of love and appreciation in the relationship.

Couples therapy is my passion! Relationships and all the dynamics that go along with them truly amaze me. Couples in any stage of a relationship can benefit from new perspectives and proven tools that can increase effective communication, solve problems before they start, and nurture love and respect toward one another. Restoring broken marriages and relationships is achievable. Often only one partner in the marriage or relationship is willing to come. That is normal and is often a springboard to amazing growth and health for both the individual and his or her relationships. Call for an appointment. (770)548-3034

I work with couples on a variety of problem areas such as Intimacy, Trust, Communication, Conflict Resolution, Long Term Goals, Expectations of the Relationship, Finances, etc. Coaching sessions are filled with energy and are very different from typical talk therapy. Couples get homework assignments and report back on a regular basis. I also work with Co-Parenting in order to help both parties understand how their decisions and style of communication are effecting their children. We come up with ways to deal with areas of concern such as health and wellness, finances, cultural/spiritual, and recreation.
