While the causes of depression remain unclear, we are fortunate to have many approaches which have helped countless people regain their lives. As there may be many factors involved in why an individual is depressed I always do a thorough assessment. While I am not adverse to psychiatric medications I have concluded that their use for depression is questionable, albeit an option when combined with therapies such as Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, Behavioral Activation, and Logotherapy. I have found that taking a holistic approach, tailoring the therapy to the client and their world, is the best approach to treating depression.
