Depression can present as a low grade depression "I never really feel light hearted and happy' or as a Severe Depression that can be agonizing and debilitating 'I don't know how to ever get out of this dark hole'. Depression attacks the Sense of Self. Most often it is early life experiences that contribute to a person's vulnerability to depression. I like to work with EMDR, a trauma treatment method that helps the brain to process painful experiences from the Past and integrate those experiences into a healthier Here and Now. EMDR can support the person to leave the depressed state of Helplessness and supports the person to build Strengths and 'to come out of the shell' into a stronger Self.

Over my thirty years of practice I’ve seen hundreds of depressed children, teenagers, and young adults. In some kids it shows up as sadness, in others as a chronic irritability or anger. Some kids just sleep a lot, or lose themselves in video games. We can blame technology, social media, the pressure kids feel to get into a “good” college, the disconnect they feel with their parents and other adults, but we can’t deny the fact that many children, teens, and young adults are unhappy. I have a long history of helping these kids work their way out of their depression—sometimes counseling them individually, sometime with their parents—and would welcome the opportunity to help yours.
