According to NIMH, Major Depression is the leading disability in the US. for those between the ages of 15 and 44. And Dysthymia, Postpartum Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Situational Depression and other mood disorders impact nearly 10% of the US population 18 years of age and older annually. I approach Depression from several angles. 1)Lifestyle changes (adequate sleep, exercise, nutrition, fun activities), 2) Underlying beliefs about oneself that contribute to low self-esteem and shame, 3) Positive support system of friends and family, and 3) The possible need for medication or natural supplements if there seems to be a true brain chemistry imbalance that cannot be fully addressed just with regular therapy.
