Depression is often defined as a negative view of self, other and even the world turned inward. We will work to change your negative perceptions, attributions and quiet your inner critic. You will learn to recognize strengths in yourself and others as tools to send depression packing. You will learn positive ways to cope with stressors and soothe your mind.

Distance Therapy and Coaching for Depression. Don’t let the snow or flu season interfere with your therapy sessions. Inclement weather and less sunlight during winter can increase depression, illness, and lethargy. It brings that “I just want to stay at home and rest” feeling. Many of my clients are now using phone or video sessions for this reason and others. Recently, a client’s child was home sick from school, so I told her to grab a cup of coffee or tea and we could have our session over the phone. An increasingly popular method of counseling, distance therapy allows you to have therapy anywhere—from the comfort of your own home or wherever you have access to a phone or computer.

Depression breeds hopelessness, a pervasive darkness that can make it difficult to reach for help. You may feel a low grade of chronic depression in which you can function but rarely seem to enjoy anything you do. Or it may feel like there’s a refrigerator on your chest, making it difficult to even get out of bed. Others around you don’t understand, telling you to “cheer up” or “get over it,” not understanding why your mood is so low. While the best results are often a combination of therapy and medication, therapy alone is often successful in treating depression. Good therapy will provide a path out of depression, a journey that has you feeling better and more hopeful along the way.

When life drains you and leaves you feeling overwhelmed and without energy, counseling can help. Therapy can help you explore the issues that are weighing you down and help you find ways to cope with pain and fear that may be holding you back. Sometimes, we get caught into patterns of negativity and therapy can help change these patterns and let you see new possibilities. Self esteem and positive feelings can be cultivated and enhanced. Hope, energy, and passion can be restored through the counseling process.

In my work with men and women with compulsive and out-of-control sexual behaviors, I have found that many of my clients have untreated or under-treated depression. Many individuals learn at an early age that sexuality can soothe uncomfortable feelings, such as depression. Over time, these behaviors can become habitual and may escalate in intensity and risk. One of themes important goals of treatment is to learn healthy ways to cope with depression.

Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. Instead, why not try a natural and arguably more effective way to not just change your mind, but change the brain--where the depression is rooted. Contact us at email@example.com.

Depression can feel like a dark cloud that hovers over you. Sometimes it can come with no warning and feel like the cloud will never go away and like you’ll never see the light of happiness. I provide a safe place for people to talk about their feelings and some tools to help people get some relief from depression. People’s strength to get through tough days and tough times is inspirational. I am reminded of this quote A.A. Milne writes for Christopher Robbin: “Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”

According to NIMH, Major Depression is the leading disability in the US. for those between the ages of 15 and 44. And Dysthymia, Postpartum Depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Situational Depression and other mood disorders impact nearly 10% of the US population 18 years of age and older annually. Cognitive-behavior therapy and/or psychiatric medication are very effective in treating the different mood disorders and depression. At times, therapy or counseling alone will suffice in addressing the problem. At other times, medication is warranted in conjunction with therapy for the treatment of depression. We at Ashburn Psychological Services are here to help.

Although their are various symptoms attributed to depression, at its core it involves a loss of one's sense of passion and purpose in living. I help people recover their lost sense of passion and purpose by helping them look deep inside themselves for what they have lost. It is not easy work, but it is very rewarding. Once this work is done, the symptoms of depression are no longer needed.

I approach Depression from several angles. 1)Lifestyle changes (adequate sleep, exercise, nutrition, fun activities), 2) Underlying beliefs about oneself that contribute to low self-esteem and shame, 3) Positive support system of friends and family, and 3) The possible need for medication or natural supplements if there seems to be a true brain chemistry imbalance that cannot be fully addressed just with regular therapy. I have found that ALL of these areas must be addressed in order to effectively treat Depression.

There are many forms of depression. Some people have a major depression needing both counseling and perhaps medication. Other people come in with low level depression or situational form following a loss or perhaps a trauma. Some people need to process their situation and see it from a different perspective along with exercise, connecting with other people, joining support groups, focusing on moments when they felt strong and competent. I will design, along with you, strategies to help manage the depression and bring hope back into your life.

I have a great deal of experience helping clients who are going through feelings and symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. I use a variety of ways to guide clients to feel more content and happy. I use cognitive therapy with clients who tend to be perfectionists and/or are self-critical. I use gestalt therapy with clients who need to more fully express their feelings. I use hypnosis with clients who need to get in better touch with their inner strengths. Everyone deserves to feel good inside.
