Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is used as the most effective intervention for treating individuals who suffer from clinical depression. Research studies consistently support CBT as the primary clinical tool in psychotherapy techniques. However; other psychodynamic techniques are also used to help the individual to better understand their family of origin issues which may serve as a contributing factor to the depressive disorder. Both of these approaches combined with medication therapy increases the likelihood of a successful outcome.

Depression is not only a chemical imbalance in the brain, but a state of being. My goal with clients is to increase their level of functioning, to establish healthy coping skills, and coordinate with their primary care physician for medication management if appropriate. Clients with a depression diagnosis can greatly benefit from therapy when they are active participants in their own treatment.
