Depression can be invasive in our lives leading to withdrawal from others, anger, negative feelings towards self and others, trouble concentrating and making decisions, a change in sleeping habits, tearfulness, suicidal thoughts and/or attempts, and overall dissatisfaction with life and feeling unhappy. If you feel this may have taken over your life please call and we can evaluate the depth of your depression. I have two excellent tools that will help you determine the degree of your depression. We can look at the options together on how best to treat it, whether by medication from your physician and counseling or counseling and alternative therapies or just talk therapy alone.

Most people who are seeking therapy for depression have been referred by their doctor or they are feeling like it is the last resort. They have been trying to do it all on their own and that is not working. Depression can be a short-term, situational issue or it can be something that you struggle with for life. The important thing is finding someone who understands what you are going through and how to help you come out on the other side. You don't have to do this all on your own. Let me help you discover what is causing your depression and things you can do to feel better and manage it.

Depression is one of the most common reasons clients seek help. Depression is an extended version of sadness. When people are sad for several days, they lose interest in their everyday activities, cry, can't sleep or sleep too much. Then the cycle begins. I can help you break that cycle. We can, together, try to understand what is keeping you "stuck."

Depression is felt by everyone at one time or another; however, if you are living under the cloud of depression, counseling will help you to discover new truths. Negative thoughts are often the result of the inablity to see truth. Cognitive Behavior therapy is used in session to help clients to change negative thought patters. Narrative therapy is also used with clients suffering from depression.

Depression is like a gray film that settles over life. When depression is present, it makes it seem nearly impossible to find a place to be comfortable. I can help you identify and talk through the situations and thoughts that are creating and sustaining depression. Don't wait to ask for help. The longer depression is present, the more pervasive it becomes in your life. You deserve to feel better.

Depression is the elephant on your back, that makes life almost impossible to manage, and can be triggered biologically or environmental. If you are taking an antidepressant prescribed by your family practitioner or a psychiatrist, participating in individual therapy is essential for recovery from depressive symptoms. Individual therapy can make it possible to have energy throughout the day, smile and laugh, experience joy, and feel hopeful about your day and future. For those who are in the depths of their depression, suicide becomes a real option. However therapy, and collaboration with a psychiatrist, can help someone see there are other options, and life is important to live.

Meds or Therapy? This is the question posed by many as they seek help for treating depression. Studies show that both are equally effective. This is surprising news to most who just assume that meds might be the only route to go. Only taking meds might combat depression, but doesn't get to the root of the problem contributing to the depression Walking with people who move from a sense of complete hopelessness to a sense of hopefulness and stability is a journey I have taken often with many of my clients. Observing the incredible resiliency and tools people have to climb out of depression is powerful. I am also EMDR trained, and this modality can offer rapid relief to depression.
