Did you know that the number of people who suffer with depression is similar to the number of people who suffer from seasonal allergies? I bet that is a surprise to you, since we don't hear people talking about depression like they talk about their allergies. People who suffer with depression are not only dealing with the depression but they are often doing it alone. Let us walk with you in this process so that you are not alone. We use a variety of techniques and when necessary, work collaboratively with psychiatrists to proscribe medication. Depression can feel like a heavy blanket - of crying, sadness, lack of motivation, apathy. Let us help you throw off the blanket and start thriving!

Lingering depression can bring you down into deep despair and darkness. Some may suffer from depression in reaction to adverse situations, defeats, setbacks such as a death or divorce, an oppositional child, or financial troubles such as a job loss. Christian Counseling offers real hope, support, and encouragement. Inner peace can come from the work of identifying root causes of emotional/spiritual pain. Discouragement is the opposite of faith, making us perceive only the unfavorable circumstances. Some depression is a result of a chemical imbalance. If needed, we will consult with your prescribing physician for medical help.

Depression can range from mild to severe. Depression can be a result of many factors or a combination of factors. It is important to first understand the severity of the depression and take the necessary steps to insure the safety of the client. Depression can be a symptom that says something is going on in your life that needs to be addressed. I believe that treating the symptom without addressing the underlying issue does a disservice to the client.

For my clients struggling with depression, I work with them on identifying patterns of negative thinking which contribute to negative and depressive feelings. With Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we change negative thinking to positive thinking to help build a happier and more positive outlook on life. I encourage my clients to keep a journal, so that they are recording negative thinking as it comes and are more in tune to areas in their lives in which negative thinking is more prone to occur.

One of the hallmarks of depression is that it reaches a point where it seems like it can't ever be any different and it's just no use. The good news if you're looking for help is that you haven't got there yet or you are getting past it! I use a cognitive behavioral approach to treat depression to help clients become unstuck from negative core beliefs. Improving relationships can also help lift our spirits. I regularly use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) to help resolve old trauma and the thoughts we have about ourselves as a result of them. You can feel better.
