Often when people are depressed they lose the connections that are most important for healing. For me, treatment for depression starts with helping you feel connected, heard and validated. There are a variety of techniques that can be used to treat depression but there is no "one size fits all" approach. I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach that makes new skills meaningful and applicable to your life. Depression does not define who you are. (groups available)

Depression is a complex topic. There are a myriad of reasons you may be feeling depressed, there are countless ways in which it manifests in our lives and the length of time we may be dealing with it can be anywhere from minutes to a lifetime. Given the complex nature of depression, there are as many theories for dealing with it as there are reasons for its presence in our lives. With that in mind, my approach is to find out what is going on and what precipitated the depression. Is it situational (lost a job, relationship, loved one) or perhaps more organic (it's physiological and may require medication)? I use empathy, skill building, emotion regulation and EMDR to restore balance.

Perhaps the most insidious aspect of being human is the occurrence of depression. It sneaks up on everyone from time to time, and can be very difficult to shake. There is no big solution that fits everybody, which makes conquering depression a task of recognizing the real issues, tackling them with sincere honesty, building self esteem, and reclaiming the elements of one's experience that support them. Above all, the process of standing down depression involves patience and the desire to work to find one's even keel.

I help clients with depression by teaching them Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Clients identify negative thoughts, learn to stop them, and replace them with something more positive. I like to work in conjunction with the client's Primary Care Physician or Psychiatrist if they are on medications. If client's have had trauma then I am trained in Trauma Focused CBT. If clients have anxiety as well, I treat that at the same time.
