Many times depression is about feeling unable to move, either physically or mentally. Afraid to make decisions for fear of making a mistake, or doing something wrong. Helping a patient increase their self -esteem so they can feel their own sense of power can help solve this impotence. Depression can also be about great sadness, and/or grief. Sitting in therapy with support and understanding from a therapist, allowing oneself to feel and bear one's own sadness is a great gift of therapy. Over time, after processing
their feelings, the patient can feel better and less depressed.
Justin Hughes, MA, LPC, NCC
Having depression is exactly that- depressing. But it's treatable. There are a lot of reasons why a person can become depressed, so part of my approach is looking at what leads to it and what you can do about it. Taking a holistic approach, I consider Biological, Psychological, Social, and Spiritual factors, recommending resources that are the best fit for your unique needs and moving at a pace that works for you. There is hope.
Michael Salas, MA, LPC, LCDC

Although there are biological factors contributing to depression, many of the symptoms of depression are the result of unexpressed feelings, in particular, anger. By getting clients to breathe more fully and use thier bodies expressively, the fear or sandess underlying the anger is worked through, greatly reducing the depressive symotoms. Movement of their bodies and the use of their voices helps clients free the blocked energy holding in the expression of feelings in thier bodies. This brings increased aliveness and joy into their lives.
Ron Nevelow, L.C.S.W.
I have worked with many people over the years battling depression and have found that they need hope that things will get better. I believe that people have the ability to create the positive changes in their lives that they want. My enthusiasm and belief in my clients helps give them that hope.
I create a safe place for them to express their feelings, help them discover ways to feel better, and then look at underlying issues that fuel their depression. I focus on feeling better first, as I think people want relief before they find the causes. As a result, my clients tend to feel better quickly when they are motivated to change. Let me help lift that weight off your back.
Wendy Torres, BCBC, Board Certified Biblical Counselor

Dr. Kevin Fleming, Ph.D.
Grey Matters International, Inc. and the work of Kevin J. Fleming, Ph.D. handles depression and other emotional disorders in a very unique way. Most of therapy or counseling processes utilize validation, unconditional positive regard, and reframing as common techniques to get someone to heal from their depression. Though this can be helpful, it rarely fixes the core problem behind it and for tough cases we then refer them usually to a psychiatrist for medication which can have tons of side effects. Instead, why not try a natural and arguably more effective way to not just change your mind, but change the brain--where the depression is rooted. Contact us at kevin@kevinflemingphd.com.
