Life can be so overwhelming at times that it becomes difficult to bounce back to a more positive disposition. Sometimes nothing we try seems to help, making us fall deeper and deeper into despair. Fortunately there is hope. I will help you design your own Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), use charts to track and control your moods, find helpful care providers, build a system of mutual support, increase self-confidence and self-esteem, use relaxation, diet, exercise, and light to stabilize your moods, and avoid conditions that can worsen your symptoms. There are new ways of thinking. There is a way out of depression!
Sarah Schlote, BA, MA, CCC
Feeling depressed, discouraged, hopeless or helpless can be a painful "stuck" place to be in. Together we will identify the negative thoughts, assumptions, self-talk, self-criticism and limiting core beliefs that might be maintaining your low mood, discouragement and apathy. The physical and emotional aspects of depression will also be explored, including the lifestyle changes that might help activate your body's natural ability to feel better. And we will also gently explore the other underlying factors that might be impacting your ability to climb out from the depths, including difficult life transitions, trauma, family pressures, grief and loss, relationship conflict, abuse, etc.
Leah Valian, MSW, RSW
Have you ever been told to "snap out of it?" We overuse the words" depressed" and the typical short term "depression" people experience is entirely different from the physical illness of depression that exhausts, immobilizes and sickens us. Your sad feelings and low moods deserve attention. Thankfully many options move us to enjoying life again. I can help you to navigate the challenges and to assess what resources best suit you. Medication is not for everyone but can be a life saver for many. Let's give you the compassionate attention you deserve. I can help you to decide whether its time for a medical opinion. You have suffered long enough and deserve help.
Mary Manson, MCS, MA
Depression is a dark, desperate place and sometimes we can just not find our way out on our own. It is a complicated but common illness with many possible causes (sometimes with no apparent cause) impacting 1 in 3 people at some point in their lifetime. Changes in appetite or sleep patterns coupled with feelings of hopelessness and despair are often the first signs of depression. Fortunately there is help. Research has shown that people recover best when counselling is combined with anti-depressant medication. Changing the negative thinking patterns in your brain is not only possible, but life changing.
Lori McDonell, B.A., M.T.S
We all fell blue or sad at times, but some of us this feeling is ongoing and can become clinically depressed. Even those who might feel slightly blue or becoming depressed may need to reach out to a professional for support. When depression starts to interfere with your daily life and you are not functioning positively, it is time to seek support from a professional. We will look at the things in your life that might be attributed to feelings of depression and find away to develop new and healthy ways to function. In all, I am a client centered therapist who is there to help guide and facilitate change. You will feel that your needs are my top priority.

While we all have days where we feel sad and 'depressed', if it goes on day after day so that negative thoughts make us feel exhausted, powerless, empty, discouraged and hopeless, then we need help. Leaving depression untreated can lead to several physical and mental complications and even suicide. Fortunately, trained counsellors can assist us in retraining our mind and teach us new skills to challenge depressive thinking so that we can lead a confidently depression free life.

Depression can be quite debilitating. I look at what is happening in the present and I also look at the past as a possible link to the depression. Most of my counselling involves looking deeply into the client's thoughts and how they view themselves in the world. If we can find the root of the depression then atleast we can relieve some of the illogical thoughts about ourselves and how we are in the world. This will give us tools to look at the world in a different light and reframe our thinking to see positive instead of negative.
